Ok, so im pretty sure this topic has been discussed many a times. Did a search and really not finding what Im looking for. My question is, Can I put on mud tires that are also good on the road, and whats the biggest I can go with my 16" rims, I also don't have a lift kit. I just want a rugged look. Will I need 17" rims to achieve this look?

This is a no.. mud tires generally dont have very good on-road behavior or tread life

I've gotten at least 45K+ out of every set of mud tires I've ran. On the old school Cooper STT pattern MTs, I got 50K out of those. Rotating every 5k-10k miles will help with longevity. I don't mind the road noise.

We drive Tacomas, not full size Chevy or Fords, so tread wear shouldn't be bad, but you gotta rotate them consistently!

Muds dont work well on road at all but its liveable if you dont care. They are usually a higher load rating so really stiff. Must run low air pressure to get a even wear. They wear way faster since open lug. They are crappy in rain, ice and light snow when on road. They are super loud. Offroad they are awesome.

Mud tires are not THAT bad on the road. I've had mud tires on my Toyotas for the last 20 years. Down here in the South, there's lots of folks that run mudders on their daily drivers. As long as you're aware that you are driving on mudders and not speeding like Andretti, you'll be fine. Now when mud tires go bald, that's when they get slicker than owl shit on the road.

I run 10 ply rated Big O offroad tires, LT265/75R16s, on my truck. I don't put a lot of miles on it, so they age before they wear out. I run them at 35 PSI and don't rotate them. They have worn evenly. YMMV.

I'm looking at Cooper ST Maxx and Nitto Ridgegrapplers. Both have aggressive look for A/T tires

Cooper ST Maxx is what I am running on mine. They do well enough on the road if your not racing or doing panic stops.
They will howl in the curves when pushed, same with panic stops. Drive with those thoughts in mind and life will be better. YMMV.

I've got Cooper ST Maxx on my truck and they are pretty quiet for as aggressive as the tread is. Like others have said, they howl a little around the corners, and once you're above 65mph. They are wearing pretty good though, have more than half tread and about 25k miles on them

Bought my truck used, with BF Goodrich, A/T. Not sure what the mileage was when they installed, but I put 70k km on since. They're done now, and I'm putting on the same again, except 265 vs 245.

Edit: BF Goodrich All Terrain A/T

Yes it does! I would take a hard look at the Yokohama Geolander G105. Truly a great tire for the area you live and the roads you drive. I have many friends there running this tire. I just bought a set for my Suzuki. Mud tires look cool, yes, and when you are upside down in the ditch, everyone will get a good look at them!
