Has anybody actually made/used a Pressure Vessel for TPMS on a 3rd Gen?

Going from Steel to Alloy wheels. Got some great OR wheels from a forum member. I know the issues with the TPMS config between two wheel types. My options include:

Buy new TPMS-more expense
Use bands to hold current TPMS in new wheels-not too expensive but kind of cheesy
Flip TPMS 180 deg-free/cheap, but the TPMS might break with a flat or tire change and cheesy
Potentially create a pressure vessel to house the 4 old TPMS-real cheap and cheesy but tempting if it works
Just live with the light with black elect tape-probably not it would bug the hell out of me.

So has anybody actually created a small pressure vessel to house the TPMS for a 3rd Gen Taco and not thrown a dash light. Does the system in these vehicles require the TPMS to rotate or be in proximity. I'd hate to go that direction only to have to take the tires off and go with another option. I have had great success in using a tire pressure gauge to measure pressure for about the last 37 years

Thanks Dean 724-I think I saw that but did not realize that his is a 3rd Gen. Truck. I had seen that others that had created them for 2nd gens.

 

Thats funny...I used his write up for the wiper install!

 

It should be no different than 2nd gen. Create device to hold tpms with constant pressure, place in truck somewhere, tricks computer.

 

Yep I made a tpms pipe bomb! Cost me about $25 in parts at lowes!

 

Got the wheels changed and light went on as expected. Created the Pressure vessel as above and it worked like a charm. Pressured it up, placed it in vehicle and the light went out after driving within a couple minutes. Materials around 20 ish dollars. Biggest problem around Seattle is finding a short length of 3 inch PVC-big stores only had long lengths, so it was off to local Ace Hardware for a 2 foot section and the end caps. Bought a rubber valve stem assemble, drill hole and put it together. 24 hrs later pressure it up and go. Yahoo, feels kind of like hill billy engineering!

 

Nice man, I had to buy a 2 food piece of pipe too lol.

This dolly wheel/tire works great as well. Break the bead on one side and put TPMS sensors in the tire and air up... Store behind rear seat. Worked/fit great in my 2nd gen.

Yar-I thought of that situation immediately. I stuck the "vessel" in the compartment behind the drivers seat, wrapped in a Crown Royal bag. Then I thought: cops search vehicle, think I have some upscale Canadian whiskey bottle stashed only to find my sensor tube and bring in the squads-I then spend a long night in jail etc. Imagine "No, really officer its only a pressure vessel for my tire pressure moniter system" sound of a guns being cocked. I love the x-ray, should mark that pic for the "how to".

 

So I’m reviving this. Is the TRD trim any different that the SR model tpms? Will this work on trucks with the 4 independent pressure read outs on the dash display?

I’m going to do 2 sets of tires and wheels and would prefer to just do this rather than have the light on half the year and sensors the other half. This way the tire shops and dealer service departments won’t give me any grief if it happens to be the half the year without sensors.

 

They have different tpms sensors.

 

So is it just how they mount or can I pipe bomb them?

That’s the plan. I just want to make sure it works before I pay to get tires mounted without them. So does your SR have the display that gives the pressures for each one of the tires? Like this one....

 

This will work on "ANY" vehicle with TPMS.

But - I forgot to add - It will not repair a broken TPMS OR some other problem with the TPMS system.
