It seems like the wireless charging is extremely slow and my iPhone XS Max comes off (no case) extremely hot, almost too hot to hold. Is this normal?

If it gets too hot it pauses itself. I get about 4% in a 15 minute drive with an s10+. I dont know if the case I have on affects it or not.

My samsung has gone into heat mode a few times as well as the charger giving a high heat warning (orange and green flashing lights). I think that's why someone on here called it "the burrito warmer".

I think this is more-or-less common with wireless charging and isn't unique to the Tacoma Qi pad.

edit: a quick google search shows that "is my phone supposed to get this hot" is one of the most common questions about wireless charging in general.

The Tacoma qi pad is especially slow, too, and I had a lot of problems because normal driving caused my phone to stop charging for a minute, light up to tell me, then start charging again, then break connection and light up the display again, etc... Basically my phone would end up with less charge because the inconsistent supply would cause the phone to use more energy.

Unfortunately my iPhone X overheats while using wireless carplay. So much for my idea using wireless charging and wireless carplay at the same time! ><

My S8 charges fine as well, gets moderately warm but never too bad. It also charges decently as well.

Same, but it has gone into heat mode two times. Needs a fan since it just traps the heat in there.

I've noticed my Galaxy S10 charges much better when I place it on the right side of the charging pad, top of the phone towards the right. I place it there because I had overheating when I put it on the left side of the charging pad...but on the right, no issues.

You might notice the rectangle on the pad is off-centered slightly to the right too. I think the pad/phone work harder to charge when it's off-centered on the charging surface.

IMO, the Qi charger in the Tacoma is junk. Heat is bad for any battery and the OEM Samsung wireless pad for my S6 does not do that. I don't use the Tacoma Qi.

I've used mine a few times, and I've noticed that my phone always seems warmer than usual and it never charges it very much. It's a really convenient place to stick my phone while I drive, but that Qi button doesn't have many miles on it.

Its normal because its a shitty charger. I wouldn't make a habit of using it because the lithium battery in your phone definitely doesn't like all that heat.

My Note 9 got super hot and wouldn't charge with the case on. I wonder what the difference is.

Could be the case... you shouldn't have any metal in between the phone and charger

Mine does the same thing now. It used to work fine, but it basically stopped charging *any* phone. Brought it into the dealership and they replaced the charging pad, but it still doesn't charge any phone I put on it. It gets hot as hell and my phone actually drains while on it. Pretty annoying.
