This might be a stupid question. I don’t own a cap but am planning one soon.

When you sleep on the bed and shut the tailgate and back cap window, is there a latch to get out?

Mine has one. Pretty sure it’s a safety thing. D2DBB70F-6D9D-4EAF-A776-DC1053470474.jpg

I own an ARE and there is a purpose-built handle to exit from within. I assume it's standard across all caps.

Love the center beam. I pretty much replicated the OP without the center piece. 3/4" ply holds me up fine.

Thanks for the inspiration. Used your idea and made my own. I liked the idea of 3 sections with one being easy to remove near the tailgate so I can throw larger camping gear there.

Thanks. The platform is two sheets of 3/4" covered with basic grey carpet purchased in a pre-cut roll at Home Depot. Easy to take out, as the sheets rest on two horizontal cross beams that sit within slots that come standard in the bed.

Nice. I did my in two pieces like you did...but mine are two equal pieces that are not connected. You stepped up to a new level. What are the metal pieces on the underside?

Nice! The metal plates have threads that legs screw into for extra support in the corners when the platform is fully extended. Both pieces of ply are on a hinge, and the folding side is cut a little shorter in order to clear the ceiling. So since the only support is the wheel well, I added two legs in the corners. The thing is rock solid now.

Could you post some more pics when you get a chance? I’d love to see more pics. Is that board running down the middle attached or loose?

Yes, gonna take a few more tomorrow to show it more clearly. The board down the middle is attached to the ply with corner brackets.
