Want to run 33” tires

what would be the most economical lift to be able to run 33’s on my 03 ext cab V6? It is my daily driver. Do plenty of off-roading here in Western Maine mountains. Thanks,

 

Lift isn't really going to affect what size tires you can run - at least not a suspension lift, which is what you'll hear recommended by most.

That's because lift only changes where the vehicle sits in relation to the suspension at rest - when you go over bumps and the suspension articulates, it has the same path whether it's lifted or not.

This article explains that concept pretty well, as well as several other things that will affect what you'll need to do to fit larger tires.

Ultimately, to fit 33"s, you won't have to do too much if you're going to stick with your stock wheels and skinny tires - just some pinch weld trimming and maybe a bit of hammering of the firewall.

I paid around $750 for ome front and aal on the rear. From , No cutting of the truck and it fits 33's without rubbing.

 

33's but how wide? that is going to be a key factor in rubbing

@Limechild, cheapest is not to lift it and cut and hammer your fenders/firewall. That's free, lol.

If if you want something that's (IMO) the best bang for your buck, Bilstein 5100s, reuse stock springs, and an add-a-leaf in the rear. That'll run ~$400.

That will lift it enough that it likely won't rub at ride height, but as has been said, it won't entirely prevent rubbing unless you also make some modifications to your fenders.

Also highly depends on which tires you get, rim/tire width and rim offset.

 

I haven't experienced any rubbing at any time. I do have 1 inch wheels spacers as well with the 285 tires.

 

Getting my caster set to 3˚ eliminated the pinch weld rubbing I was getting from my 33s (255/85r16...true 33" tire). It moves the tires forward away from the cab.

I still had to trim some of the pinch weld back and beat it flat with a hammer, but even then I was still hitting it until I got my caster pushed higher.

Wheel spacing has a lot to do with whether or not you're going to rub.

 

As stated above, a lift (by itself) doesn't change the suspension geometry. For *most* people, a lift does effectively solve the rubbing problem because it puts the wheels/tires in portion of the suspension travel they don't use, much, if at all, like tight turns with a wheel compressed.

Your wheel spacers likely have more to do with your wheels not rubbing.

I highly recommend the cooper s/t maxx in that size. I switched to those from some BFG KM2s and the coolers are so smooth and quiet on the road but still have a very aggressive tread. They made my lifted taco smoother and quieter than my lowered BMW
