So I live in northeast pa , and they salt and brine the crap outta our roads in the winter . I WAS looking for a good used set of winter tires and steel rims but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen in time . I had the idea of using clear plasti-dip on my rims I have now to protect them from the salt and brine mix , anyone try this already ?

I have the sema wheels and BFGoodrich ko2’s (which are new) so they are great probably great for snow I would imagine .

I would say give it a shot!!! but add a thick layer? I've never dipped my rims.

I do it once every 2 years. I put on 5-6 light coats for an even coating. I live in MA and have zero pitting or rust on my TRD sport rims. It is one of the main reasons why I did it in the first place. 6 years old and look brand new. The great thing is, you can peel it right off afterwards if necessary.

Nope, I used the black. I wanted to "murder" out my chrome TRD wheels since my truck was MGM color

That looks sweet ! Thanks for answering me , about how many cans did you use (for all four wheels) how many coats did you do ? how does it hold up in car washes ?

Car washes through golden nozzle is fine. I go through it at least once a week. I used four cans, but bought a fifth just in case. I did 5-6 light coats to make sure it was even and not runny. I would just take off all of my wheels, having the entire truck on jack stands, place them on the grass (knowing that I will mow up any overspray, ) and I put playing cards in between the outer rim and the tire (so it doesn't get on the tire and give it a clean edge). It is ok the get in on the tire put I just wanted to make it look clean.

did you leave the center cap on the rim and spray it or did you do your center cap separate ? Do those have center caps ?

@crashngiggles so I did my rims and emblems to , they turned out great I think !

Thanks for your input and wisdom, I also sprayed over the center caps (I tried to get them off but wasn’t successful ) . I didn’t take the wheels off the truck, just taped and masked around them and wrapped newspaper around my drums and discs . I painted a few coats then rolled the truck forward a 1/2 wheel turn and sprayed. Few more coats then rolled the truck forward a 1/4 turn of the rim .

I ran out of time but I want to try to “trace” out and cut out the red trd in the center caps .

They look great! Super easy right? They will last about 2 years before you will start to see some peeling. Then when you are ready to redo them, take a very good pressure washer to them to get off as much as the old stuff as possible and them repeat the coating process again.

Yep it was easy , the plastidip is very forgiving and the nozzle on the can works good . I tried the playing card between the tire and rim but it didn’t slide in between. So I just used newspaper and masking tape .
