As I have been growing up in my parents house I have never had the habits of being healthy instilled in me. Don't get me wrong. I am not fat. Just bigger than I would like to be. I am about 5' 8" and 180 lbs. I was around 200 a year ago. It has been a struggle for me to get my eating habits in check. I have made my mom mad because I have just thrown all the junk out. My theory is that if it is not in easy reach I'll eat something else when I get hungry. (I have tried to make the alt fruits) I want to get in shape. I want to be muscular like a 18 year old should be. I run about 3 mornings a week and try to do what I can at home exercise wise. My goal is to get myself down to around 160 by burning fat. Then gain muscle to back around 175. Are my goals all wrong? If not what else can I do to get there?

I'd say visit a professional nutritionist or a doctor and do a proper check up so you know HOW you are supposed to stay healthy. Everyone is different, and maybe ur body needs a little something more other people dont need. Maybe it's a vitamin supplement, maybe it's a particular exercise.

One thing at a time....don't overdue it, or you'll never be successful.

Just remember....if you start getting into more exercise on a regular basis, your metabolism will increase (which is good) but at the same time, you have to eat more to keep the metabolism UP. In other words....its unhealthy if you get into a rigorous exercise program AND cut down on your food intake.

Have you thought about joining a gym? I'm not trying to promote any fitness club, but do you have Planet Fitnes where you live? It's a cheap way ($10 a month) to see if a club is 'right for you' and whether or not you'd like it...Gym memberships aren't for everyone. But atleast with $10 a month, you can try it out and bail if you don't think its worth it.

Try drinking diet sodas. They're aweful at first until you get used to them. If you drink a lot of soda (like I do), you'll save yourself a lot of caloric intake. My husband and I both started driking diet sodas mostly due to his HIGH sugar levels.

I'm not necessarily cutting down food intake. Just changing what that inake is. I am planning on joining a gym. There isn't a planet fitness here but I am looking at some of the local gyms. I did drink a lot of soda. I have tried to cut that out. I'm mostly drinking water and Gatorade now. And sweet tea some. You know I can't go without my tea. Lol I'm southern.

    Just don't overdue it....

If you spend a week eating nothing but carrots & lettuce (so to speak)....by the end of the week you'll be hell bent on getting your hands on the biggest rack of ribs, greasy cheese fries, & pile of icecream for desert.

    I would!!! (laugh)

Although, if you've got the will power to go cold turkey on a variety of things, just make sure you're not starving yourself of nutriets & proteins. The last thing you want to do, is get sick because you're not eating enough.
