Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
I was just chatting with our AA at work, whose husband is a Toyota tech. She mentioned that "Ten through seventeen Tacomas are getting their frames sprayed." Now, I'm not sure she had the model years right, but I did get a letter from Toyota that talked about frame corrosion and having it inspected and possibly coated. I did talk to the "service agent", or whatever they're called, at the local dealership. She said that, yeah, I need to bring it in, but there's no hurry, I've got like 10 years from the time the notice was issued. I'm not too worried about it, I've gone the Fluid Film route.

Anyone have any more info on this? Is this mostly a PR move due to past Gen2 frame rot problems, or are Gen3 owners really having the same issue?

I’d like to know about the gen3 too.

I never had the frame issue on my gen2. Bought it new, it spent 3 years in WA, 2 in NJ and another 2 in HI so all near the ocean and humid areas. It’s interesting how a large percentage of vehicles can have an issue but another large percentage doesn’t.

We all end up somewhere. Two overnighters. One i deserved. One i didn't. Deserved a lot more than that. Just never got caught before i figured out the right path to walk. The measure of a man isn't in the mistakes he makes rather how he makes amends. Made my amends to all in this world except one. I will have to wait until my time in this world is done to make that one right. You still got my vote EHB.

Added the Weathertechs, they are more substantial than the OE all weather mats in the front. The rear Weathertechs were "meh" and just a little larger than the OE, could have saved $70

OE Carpet floormats, OE rubber floormats and rear headrests will go into a box to be opened to whoever gets my estate in 30 years.

Weathertech sunshade is nice and fits perfect, but is too much $$$.

What have I done to my 3rd Gen Taco? Sold the damn thing, first and last taco I will ever own. After two years I was just over how horrible it drove, that transmission was the worst thing they could have ever put in.

Friday thread inside of a thread?

But next time you buy a car, if you ask very nicely they will let you drive the car around kinda like a test to see if the car is a good fit for you

Future Jeep owner. Possibly a Dodge Ram.

Guy at work bought a 2019 Ram 1500 around the same time I started driving my Tacoma, a year ago last June. I wish I would have kept track, but I think possession has been roughly 50/50 between him and the shop. Meanwhile, I've just been driving my Taco.

I get it, I HATED my 02 for the same reason, it would downshift on level ground. I got rid of it after only 1.5 years. I took the plunge and spent way too much on a new 2019 on Monday. I have driven it less than 100 miles this week, but I swear it feels the same. I think it is less to do with the transmission and more to do with the Japanese MFGs. typical lack of torque. I get that it is a 6 speed auto and they are going to use extreme overdrive to get the RPMs as low as possible for best MPG, but it can't be on the verge of downshifting at 70mph because of wind resistance. I hope it gets better.

I didn't even know it was aftermarket (not my photo, btw). When I bought my Taco ("pre-owned", and had it trucked in from out of State), I had never even sat in one before. The shift knob mod was pointed out to me by some guy that just walked up to me in a parking lot, starting asking questions about the truck, and asked if he could look inside.

It will get better and adjust to your driving habits. I now have around 1300 miles since 20AUG. But I did noticed it a lot when it was only 8 miles during the test drive from the dealer. She'll start purrrrrrrring...:turtleride::mudding:
