That's where it gets murky. I inquired about the service history related to the frame. But, what I really needed to do was specifically ask them to inspect it. So, without that action on my part, it's hard to prove anything. Lesson here is for anything service campaign related (the frame was not a recall), you really need to be on top of it, and not assume anything.

Has there been any goodwill fixes done for anyone a couple months outside of the extended warranty? A local guy had his '04 serviced at the local Toyota dealer for the last decade and they never mentioned checking the frame. He recently noted the alignment felt off and took a look under the rear and noted possible frame rust-through. I thought I'd go over and take a look at it.

You could contact the Law firm that handled the first class action, ask them if they'd be interested in starting another for people who were duped out of the first by Dealerships misleading or delaying owners getting the right information to file a claim. Maybe this could get Toyota to extend the warranty to 20 yrs, just spit balling here :)

I don't think welding shops would touch it, a red neck or backyard mechanic might though. Also while I was looking I found a nice frame on Craigslist for $500, a local mechanic would swap it in for $2k. I did not do that in the end but thought it was worth investigating.

Why would Welding Shops not take the work?

I would love to know .

Besides being way to busy and the cost to the Tacoma Owner .

Doing one for a used Car lot a year or so was billed around $3000.00 for labor and materials.

Not every one is willing to spend that much

I am guessing liability and my frame wasn't too bad, it had a section you could cut out and replace. I ended up getting my own welder and diving in.

When you already carry a 3 million dollar liability policy if not more .

How would that even play into taking the job??

2001 through 2004 model year Tacoma frame rust warranty extended the new vehicle limited warranty 3 year/36,000 to 15 year unlimited/mileage on the frame from the vehicles in service date. The in service date is the date that the vehicle was first registered to the original owner by the dealer. This was for USA vehicles and certain conditions had to be met in order to qualify.

ok, how about a 2nd inquiry for curiosity?

9 months between stated production built date 01/04 and in service date 10/04
was the truck on the lot unwanted for roughly 8 months? or do you know anything about that :notsure:

I went into look at what was at that time the 2nd gens which were just starting to show up. While I was looking at them I noticed three 1st gens at the back of the lot. Half jokingly I made a super low ball offer on one to the salesman and he said let me see. 2 hours later I drove off the lot with one of them
Given the example given above it would be covered until 10/19 if qualified
