I’ll do it but I can’t ship them and I’m in Canada so yahs will have to take a sled and dogs up to pick them up. Not to mention the added costs of building another igloo to store them till they’re picked up.

    Sorry

    Okay?

I already knew the Alibaba version of the skid plate was made of steel. What's your point?

There is a lot of truth in this post, but also here is the flip side of things, we can initiate group buys on sought after OE items which may or may not be available to us in the US market which helps absorb the costs for door to door shipping, customs, agent costs, and taxes. Especially if it is a 10+ person group buy and one person can be in charge of spearheading the buy.

Additionally if someone really wants to side skirt customs costs they can always do the dual invoice loophole to split the cost in half for anything costing over $800.

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that this gives us options, and when it comes to the Tacoma market it's not like we are rich in options like the Jeep crowd. Consider it a leveling of the playing field in a way.

Um, there are no loop holes and $800 is not a significant number. Any commercial invoice under $2500 can bypass MPF with an informal fee of $2.10, however this does not apply to Chinese made goods due to the section 301 tariffs. Rest assured that steel products do not have a low duty rate to begin with, now there is an additional 30% on top of that.

    Please don’t spread misinformation.

This is good info here, but you are clearly missing the point of my post.

oh I got the point, just wanted to make a clarification.

something like this is not a good product to have outsourced to China. Plastic goods, like grills, RTT, and interior parts, sure.

like I said earlier, if someone wants a skid, why not just support a TW vendor?

I can stand behind that for sure. I wasn't really talking about the skids, forget those. You can get WAY better bang for your buck items from "made in the US" fabricators as well, but all the other stuff, hell yeah, game on!

This was not directed at you. But to answer your question....my point was to delve out information to anyone wondering what material this skid plate is supposedly made of.

    Crappy-knockoff-express.

I've bought inconsequential things there, USB phone cords, Li batteries, etc. Even things like that suck, but at least you get 10 or 20 of them for the price of one....

Aliexpress was selling glock selector switches and silencers last time I checked, though, so gotta give them some props for being 2A friendly.....

I messaged the seller and he said they have a 3 mm and a 5 mm plate. He’ll give us a quote if we specify quantity and which one we want.

Probably a good choice. So he said the thin one weighs 35 lbs and the thicker one is 60 freakin lbs!!! Not sure if he’s confused or my metric converter is off. 16 kg for 3 mm and 28 kg for 5 mm.

I buy parts from Alibaba in bulk for my business. Beware they inject trackers into your browser, so whenever you’re looking up something suddenly you get an email from some random seller asking if you want a product related to <search term>.

For example, I googled (not searched on Alibaba, mind you) “Roof top tent” and suddenly I have four emails from different manufacturers trying to sell me tents off Alibaba.
