Issue isn't with the article, it's the concept of continuing to heap on punishment after punishment. If we continue to treat people who WERE criminals as if they still ARE criminals, don't be surprised if they continue to ACT like criminals. I think that is where the line of contention is.

Americans have a soft spot (phrasing) for sex offenses - we consider any to be egregious and unforgivable. But our criminal justice system is "all-or-nothing" at the moment, and that obviously isn't working. We continue to heap stigma upon ex-cons, limit their opportunities when they try to start new lives as actual law-abiding citizens.

I don't claim to have a solution. While I can't imagine what those individuals were thinking when they did (or were convicted of doing) the acts they were convicted for, I can image what they must be feeling for how they are treated by the society they are attempting to be a part of. The shame has to be a physical pain.

Do they deserve it for the rest of their life, unable to get a second chance and actually be a good and productive member of society? We claim to be a nation of laws, but right now we're a nation of emotions. People need to set their emotions aside and consider the law. The law states no cruel and unusual punishment, and continuing to punish people who have served their time and are only perceived to be a danger is cruel. They don't put signs in the yards of convicted murders or drug traffickers, and I'd argue that the risks there are actually much higher.

But that's my perspective based on my experience. The only sex offender I know was a 19 year-old college kid whose dick was visible when he mooned some friends. He was labeled a sex offender and ended up taking his life in 1997 because he couldn't get a job.

Florida woman drives car into tree after telling four kids to remove seat belts: 'The devil can’t hurt you'

    1.jpg

A Florida woman, who accused her husband of placing a “hex” on her, was arrested Wednesday for attempted murder after police say she told her four young children to remove their seat belts before she intentionally crashed her car into a tree -- allegedly in a twisted bid to save them from the "devil."

Calicia Williams, 36, was charged with four counts of attempted murder after investigators say she drove her white Pontiac minivan at a “high rate of speed” onto a grass median and directly into tree, without braking.

Ocala Police responded to the 800 block of SE 31st on Tuesday over reports of single vehicle collision.

Once on the scene, police found four young children, ages 7 to 13, inside the car wearing no seatbelts. Williams was said to be “making spontaneous utterances” and appeared to be “extremely agitated” when being interviewed by authorities.

According to a police affidavit, she stated that her “husband put a hex on her and caused her to crash.” The responding officer said she kept “rambling on about spells and voodoo.”

Witnesses also told investigators that Williams advised the children to take off their seatbelts before stretching out her hands and saying, “The devil can’t hurt you, he only hurts bad people. You have the light of Jesus in you and only Jesus can cure us.”

Investigators on the scene observed evidence that indicated that Williams did not attempt to brake before crashing into the tree. It also appeared that she directly targeted the passenger side of the vehicle on impact.

Williams also had burns to her neck that indicated she was wearing a seat belt -- unlike her children.

The children and suspect were taken to the hospital but their condition was unknown. Williams will be held without bond following treatment.

    Seriously? WTF is your problem?

    I chose to rephrase it.

Go find and post your own WTFs instead of ragging on what someone else posts.
