El Cheapo Heated Mirrors

Plus you could tie in a 555 timer so they would turn off even if you left the defroster on and if you wanted to turn the mirror heat back on just switch out of defrost and back to defrost again. I'll have to see if I can get a hold of a wiring schematic to see if it's possible.

Thanks! Do you have info on your circuit? I did the mod just to get the heaters in there, leaving it open to change the circuit on the switch side later on when the proper solutions came around. The Toyota switch popped up on this forum (p/n:00550-35976), and a way to change the trigger to a switched circuit is also now planned and waiting for a time to implement it.

Do you have kits, or a schematic?

That one might also do the job. Some of these have circuitry inside that handles various conditions related to the use of the switch and circuit. It is possible that the timer is contained within the switch, but I doubt it based on what I have seen with my Taco wiring.

 

We don't have a defrost switch in our truck, do we? What does it do if we do have one.....our rear windows don't have the heater lines that go through them....

I would like a timer circuit for this though, I would probably burn my truck to the ground by accident after doing this mod wired straight up to constant voltage. I can be a bit of a "hat rack" in the morning time....

No shit! Even a chilly, humid day the damn condensation makes the mirros useless! I can drive 20 miles to work without being able to see shit on the other side of the truck as the mirrors a still covered when I pull into the parking lot.

 

I picked up the Toyota OEM switch from the stealership a few days ago. Just waiting for the local motorcycle shop to get the grip heater kit in for me.

Well, it gets all frozen up underneith and cakes on just like mud....sometimes WAY WORSE. The super cold, fluffy stuff like in my pics just flies right off...but when you get those days where the temp is just below the freezing point, it feels like you're driving in slush, and when you get home you have an extra 100 lbs in ice under your rig.
