Yeah my mom did too. And we had one cat growing up that was mean as hell so I didn't care for them as a kid. But then I got my cat Harley when he was left behind at the first apartment I rented and he changed my view completely. He's a dog dressed up like a cat basically. Follows me everywhere, greets me at the door, lays next to me when I'm lying down, hell he even plays fetch with a hackey sack.

Yep exactly I never would've ever thought that a cat like that existed until mid thirties, one time I actually payed attention to my cousins cat for like 15 minutes. 5 minutes later he brings me a stuffed mice looking thing to play fetch with! I fell in love. I had no idea

 

Kinda cool actually, that's a damn good thing. They say each generation gets smarter and smarter

 

Yeah they have a range of personalities just like dogs. But cats are more independent so some can be moreso than others. Also it depends a lot on if you let them be outdoors or not. Ours are all strictly indoor cats since we live in a city, so they're more accustomed to people behavior.
