Tire pressure question, yes I searched

Hey everyone, new member here so please be nice. I've been lurking since November and finally found the time to register.

I just bought new tires. 265/75r16 Hankook Dynapro rf10's. What pressure should I run these at. I searched and found everything from 31F 33R, 36F 32R, 32F 28R, etc. It seems as if there is no concensus. I'd rather not have to do the chalk line test if I can help it. No blacktop roads close and sounds like a hit and miss deal. Anyone running these tires on an access cab for a lot of miles and have good wear/handling at a certain pressure?

I have worked on tires for a few years and have ran different pressures on all the Tacomas I have owned at different times. Depending on what kind of ride quality u are looking for it will be a matter of choice. The best wear I have seen in terms of pressure has been between 35 to 38 psi depending on the tire. I used to run bfg a/t 265/70r16 at 35 psi and they lasted about 80,000 miles and now run 37 psi on my 285/75r16 bridgestone dueler a/t and seem to get a bit better wear at at the higher pressure. Try a few different psi if you'd like but my advice is keep it between 35 and 40 psi for optimal wear

 

It's a matter of experimenting.....

I run my stock tires around 32-34psi.

Aside from the chalk test and making sure you're getting 'even' tire wear....
The higher the psi.....the harder and more uncomfortable the ride is gonna be.

That all depends on you and what you can withstand.

It's not "hit or miss" with the chalk test. If you do it right it takes some trial and error...but with a stick of chalk and a compressor- It'll take a couple hours and your all set w/ evidence to back up your decision. No blacktop near by makes it harder to do tho.

I would concur with 35-40 PSI being a good starting point. Higher end inflation will stiffen up the ride and cause the wear to be in the middle of the tread...Lower pressures will be softer but mpgs will be lower and wear will trend to the inside/outside of the tires.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll start at 35 all the way around and keep an eye on the wear. I always rotate at 5,000 miles. Come to think of it my last truck(S10 ZR2) had BFG All Terrain and I ran those at 35 and they lasted forever. That's what I was going to put on this truck, but found a screaming deal on the Hankooks.
