I was checking my truck for leaks and I saw the circled item is covered in oil. Is that my AC Compressor? Does anyone know or have any suggestions where the oil came from? Only place I can think of is my head gasket but that seems to be in ok condition. What section of the repair manual can I find information on these components?

Power steering pump. The pump itself is likely leaking.

A lot of mess under there. I would say clean it and recheck to be sure it's the pump.

Probably the typical cover leak, which is right above the PS pump.

I’ve heard about the cover leak and is that something I can live with or do I have to fix it to avoid future problems? Will it be safe on long road trips?

I just ran across this thread. Yesterday I was under my truck and noticed a similar leak on my 2007 Tacoma. Power Steering pump was really covered in oil like the above pics. Couldn't tell where it was actually coming from so I cleaned it well with some Super Clean and will take another look at it later today to see if I can isolate where the actual leak is. Oil leaks and dirty engines are my kryptonite. Drives my OCD nuts. I would like to know more about the above mentioned "cover leak" in case that is something I need to look into. What cover are we talking about?

I did a search on power steering leaks on the 2nd Gen. and found very few posts. What am I missing here?

Oh my gosh, I have not heard of this. But it definitely looks like it is probably the problem. Gonna search for some youtube videos to see if I can find one on how to fix this. If I do I will try to remember to post them here for others who discover this leak on their Taco. Many thanks Charlie213 for the heads up
