If you want the best traction than pretty much any decent snow tire will work well (studded even better for ice). I have run falken wildpeak at3/w for a winter and now cooper ST Maxx. The coppers have been better but I was confident with either tire. They both slip in 2wd but I bought 4wd to use it. Just a suggestion if you want a tire to use all year round that will wear better as well.

I’m in the same boat. I’m think of going with the falken wildpeak at3w and hoping I can just have the tire year round and not have to worry about switching to a snow tire.

Blizzzzzzaks. Grabbers are ok, but neither of these makes my truck look badass. Because I have a Tacoma I have to use super aggressive looking tires to keep that hardcore mother look going. So I always run chunky badass MTs so people respect me when I slide into them and smash their civic with my steel front bumper.

So your experiences using and AT tire during winter haven’t been bad? I’m in the northtowns so shouldnt be as bad snow wise.

just my two cents, i put these tires on last October and they were great thru the winter but i found out quickly after putting 20,000 miles on them this year ( 75% on pavement) That i should of swapped them out for my factory dyna pros after the spring thaw. They are chopping now i have rotated them every 5,000 miles and had to rebalance them twice, which isnt that bad. The bad part is they started to Chop this September. Its only progressively getting worst. I can bare with it for now but i doubt ill get another year out of them. Again this is just my my experience with these tires im sure it depends on what kind of driving you do. GL!

I'm between Niagara and Rochester and on the same hunt with tires. I've narrowed down to falkens, generals($100 rebate this month) and cheapo coursers

Craigslist some 1 gen tacoma or 6 lug tundra wheels. Picked up mine for $100, then sandblasted and painted Dark Charcoal Metallic. Put on a set of Nokian hakkapeliitta r2 SUV's. Great combo.20190923_183536.jpg

One of the reason I got a 4WD truck and some good M+S tires so I didn't have to do the snow tire dance Fall and Spring. That's my vote. I'll check back in if we get a big dump like last year.

PS I got high sided in my own parking area last year in my 2014 WRX. It was embarrassing and took me 5-6 hours to free the car. I was using Dunlop WinterMaxx. But it's was not the fault of tires.

I run the Cooper Discoverer M+S Winter Radial Tire in the winter on both my Tacoma and 4Runner.

I paid $140 per tire on Amazon.

Blizzaks are probably the most highly rated and regarded when it comes to winter traction. That’s what we run on the wife’s car.

Toyo Observe GS5 or whatever are also amazing as well and they use crushed walnuts in them. Amazing tire in winter.

For the truck I use a 3-peak rated AT, specific General Grabber. It’s not as good as a snow tire in the worst conditions but it will pretty much do the job as long as you drive decently well.

Just remember that M+S, 3-Peak, and Winter tires are all different. It’s all about Silica and Siping.

265/75/16 Duratracs for the Win! (Only wish they came in a 255/80/16)

I sold off my crappy Kevlar Highways tires AND dedicated winter tire/rims that came with the truck to pay for the Duratracs. Worked just as good as my dedicated winter tires, and now I don't have to switch tires over twice a year.

Trust me when I say, we get horrible winters with lots of ice and snow here in Canada. Throw it in 4hi in a storm, and the Taco is a beast!

When do you guys usually throw on the winter tires? First sign of snowfall? I’ve heard the snow is going to come late this year but who honestly knows

Colorado is expecting to have a pretty bad winter. I usually do November - April
