Should call weights and measures and have the pump checked.

Unless you stalled pulling into the station and had to push your truck to the pump, it was really cold, and your truck leaned slightly to the passenger side which would allow you to fill it beyond the normal neck line :)

    21.1 gallons or 80 liters

There is another thread where we are trying to see how much gas is in our tank at various quantity lines in our fuel gauges and low fuel warning light.

So far we figured we have about 2.5 gallons (9.5 liters) left when the gauge is on Empty (right over the line)... down 18.5 gallons from full.

About 4 gallons (15 liters) left when the E light comes on... down 17 gallons.

About 8 gallons (30 liters) left when it shows 1/4 tank... down 13 gallons.

About 11 1/2 gallons (44 liters) left when it shows 1/2 tank... down 9.5 gallons.

About 16 gallons (60.5 liters) left when it shows 3/4 tank... down 5 gallons from full.

That's useful. My light came on and I freaked out the first time. I had no idea how much further I'd make it before it quit. Looks like just under 80 miles...

Wasn't intentional... long trip and wasn't paying attention to the gas guage until the light came on and caught my attention. Its good to know that once your light comes on you're not completely screwed though.

Here's the othere thread with lot's more research figures... http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/109354-how-many-gallons-your-tank.html

Here are my latest figures after a half tank fill up today:

    Full to 3/4--------= 5.1* gallons
    3/4 to 1/2------- = 4.0* gallons (9.1 total)
    1/2 to 1/4------- = 4.2* gallons (13.3 total)
    1/4 to E-Light----= 3.5* gallons (16.8 total)
    E-Light to E Line-= 1.7 gallons (18.5 total)
    E Line to Empty--= 2.5 gallons (21.0 total)

    * measured fuel amounts, not estimated

Oh, and nothing bad will happen if you don't get gas until you are on E... there is still 2.5 gallons in reserve below the E line. I have got gas many times on E in all three of my Tacomas over the past 10 years... Never any fuel problems!

    Bump.
Just want to agree that these numbers are accurate, I just checked at the gas station.

Also, I had a second gen tacoma that I ran to empty a few times, and constantly to the fuel light. Never had a single issue.

Gee that was a test in 2010! I have posted fuel level results several times since this post and yes, it is pretty consistent, +/- 0.5 gal.

FULL = 21 gal in tank
    3/4 Tank Line = 16 gal in tank <5 gal used>
    1/2 Tank Line = 12 gal <9>
    1/4 Tank Line = 8 gal <13>
    E LIGHT = 4 gal <17>
    E Tank Line = 3 gal <18>
    EMPTY = 0 gal <21>

I just filled up from 1/4 tank, and the pumped stopped at 13 gallons.
    :deadhorse:
I'm going to do some calculations and make a post in the fuel efficiency thread. Was really happy I found this post to make my calculations more precise.

I fill up when the light has been on for a few days and the needle is almost touching the "e" lol. I trust my scangage a bit too much to tell me how much fuel I have left. I've estimated I have 2.75-3G of fuel left when the light turns on.
