KBB trade in for my truck is currently about 27,000 “average”. It’s a 2019 TRD Offroad with a manual. Exact same truck specifications but for a Sport is listed at 30,000 average. I only noticed this because it looks like KBB has the Sport listed as a higher trim package than offroad so I switched it just out of curiousity.

What gives? The trucks have identical MSRP. Could it be due to over saturation of offroads on the market? Mistake by KBB? Has anyone else noticed a difference in trade value in the real world? I’m curious because I was considering trading for a new Gladiatior. Not gonna happen though if my truck is only worth 27,000 trade in. I’m not gonna take that much of a bath.

Dont trust KBB trade in value... search the market to see what similar models are going for.

Supply, demand, etc. In the end, it’s worth what you can actually get someone to pay for it.

The sport and the off-road are not very far apart in cost when brand new. In fact only hundreds of dollars

Brand new cost is not a good indicator of trade in value, Rams cost more new but have lower trade in values than Tacomas

I see what you’re all saying about supply and demand. However actual sale prices seem to be the same or higher on used offroads, so I just think it’s strange that both the sale and trade values are listed as lower for the offroad by KBB. Unfortunately most dealers seem to go off KBB from my experience, or at least use it as a bargaining chip.

Dealerships never use KBB for trade in value. So dont go off that. I know some use NADA. Others use some other stuff. But none use KBB

Dealers will do whatever the customer let's them but generally speaking they do what's most profitable, nada or lower for trade in value and kbb or higher for selling price on used units.

Trading is a losing proposition for the owner 99.573% (or more) of the time anyway.

Selling outright is your best bet.

PS. When you decide to ditch the Gladiator your losses will be much higher.

I think it depends on the region of the country you are in, last time I plugged the OR and Sport in the Trade in the OR was about $800 more.

I once had a dealer show me a KBB printout for the trade-in value offered.

Ive seen used 2nd gen going for same or more than 3rd gens used. Then again there’s a ton of used low mile third gens on lots by me. 2nd are scarce. Think it’s the area also that determines the resale. My 18 off-road is a loaded auto and is worth 30-32 maybe with 12k on it. Market is saturated in the north East with them sports, off-road etc. everyone has one

Its the skewp, the most desirable feature.
Valued more than suspensions and crawl control.
