It looks like they're still available at most places. Be willing to drive to one that can get it for you. The shipping costs they were quoting were $900

Anyone here a structural engineer or know the answer to this? I’d like to hang an electric hoist in my garage on Unistrut. I have finished ceilings so I’ll have to use lag screws. I’m wondering what size lag screws I’d need (I believe the max length is 4”) and if the load is permissible from floor joists.

Plan is to use a 12’ length of Strut with six hangars from six joists. I believe the shear rating on a standard lag screw is roughly ~300 pounds. Total of 1,800 pounds of capacity. The lift only can go up to 400lbs, which is more than I ever plan on lifting.

    Something like this:

Ya... and about those gas prices... weren't we told "ALL of that money was going to go towards fixing the roads"?

Well those funds have now been diverted to "green projects" and rail projects instead.

(This was done yesterday by (Governor) "Executive Order" yesterday)

    Hoist looks familiar.

I just reoriented the RTT to open to the left.

Then I went to mount the newly repaired awning...

Note to self: put the straps back in BEFORE riveting everything back together.

...now I get to drill out and re-rivet three of them. Joy! :jerkoff:

Main reason outside my horn painting rack for the lift is to get rid of the RTT. I don’t fit in parking garages anymore. I set off the overheight alarm with my antenna once.

Lucky son of a gun has exposed joists.

Mainly my horn painting rack, it’s about ~250 lbs loaded. Also would use it to remove my RTT which is annoying when I need to use it as a daily driver in San Francisco.

I love the RTT, but it makes the truck a hell of a lot less convenient.

My paint rack is currently just hanging from the angle iron for the garage opener. I don’t trust it.

Do you have any idea what the tent weighs?

Are you sure it's floor joists above your garage? You don't have a little shed roof coming out above the garage? It's actual living space above?

Depending on what kind of floor joists they are. Newer floor joists only have a 2x2 on top and bottom with OSB between... that makes them rigid enough for floors, but I'm not sure I would trust them to hold up a load (400 lbs) hanging off a lag screw in a 2x2.

Just one of many places we stayed during our three week vacation through Ireland and Scotland.

Played a round of golf here, and another at St Andrews.

Floor Joists, not ceiling joists. There is a bedroom above the garage. According to Tepui my Autana IV only weighs 150 pounds. 200 with the rack.

I wouldn’t trust that weight hanging off a single lag screw, however I feel like 4-6 would be able to distribute the weight better far beyond what the lift can handle.

I’m not keeping it hanging from there for storage. Just to take it off and roll it off somewhere else.
