New speakers WOW

yah I thought about that and was thinking of doing that. Just decided to try out one of the Dasaita Android HU's. Large screen and the canbus it comes with controls all of the factory controls which is what most people keep it for. 2nd Gen does not have much extra features on the HU like the newer 3rd gen HU's.

I actually have one of the newer NAV (3rd Gen Tacoma/Sienna) I was going to try and retrofit into the truck. May go back that route but well see.

 

If you get them from Crutchfield they supply the Metra connector that plugs right into the factory harness. So plug and play

 

After new speakers>>>Get one of these...makes a huge difference.

 

I just did the plug and play Subaru tweeters they sound nice and crisp a lot better than stock next will be all the other speakers

 

I did the Subaru tweeter upgrade, and while it does add a bit of sparkle to the highs, to me it sounds like some of the upper-mid's got sucked out. I think the dome tweeter crosses over at a different frequency than the factory cone tweeter, so the cone actually provides a more "balanced" sound, albeit with less sparkle. As such, understand that the tweeter upgrade alone is a bit of a trade-off, to my ears anyway.

 

I also did this upgrade less than a week after I got my truck. I did the Subaru tweeter upgrade and got Fosgate door speakers all around from Crutchfield. I'm running the stock Entune HU. But my rear speakers are very quiet, may not be getting enough power. When I fade to the back only it does sound a little better but barely any sound comes out if I set the balance in the middle. Trying to figure out if how to remedy this without replacing the stock HU, I'm no speaker guru, just a DIYer that gets by with the basic stuff. The stock speakers went right into the trash, such garbage!

Do the Subaru tweeters work on a 2005 Taco?

 

if you have the base model radio it isnt that great. Aftermarket is a huge step up and compared to the factory price for the radio and their inadequate speakers its a great deal.

 

Any details on how the Subaru tweets are wired into the system? The video above skips this important step.

They are PNP, via a wire harness that comes with the Subaru tweeters. Easiest mod ever.

I’ll start with a short story. Wife just got a 2020 Mercedes GLC 300. It had what she wanted so we wrangled a good deal seeing it had a $900 sound system upgrade we didn’t care about. Here’s the rub. I drove the Benz on a short trip today ( couple of hours) listening to the same Amazon playlist through Bluetooth we play in my ‘17 TACO. My wife said, hey, your truck sounds like sh...... compared to the MB. Duh...... $50k+ Benz with high end stereo....Duh... I heard sounds like we were in a concert hall....the Benz really is that sweet. And she accuses me of not being able to hear. Listening vs. hearing, two different things,but that’s another story.

Anyway, in the old days, a couple of times I changed out factory speakers for aftermarket with a worthwhile improvement for just the speaker change. I read all the comments here and I guess I am looking for endorsements as to: change just front doors? Or all 4 doors? Or also the tweeters? I have always liked JBL stuff but that is my 1970’s experience. So, I guess I am looking for similar upgrade experience w/o messing with the head unit. I am a midrange enthusiast, not bust the windows bass.

 

I would get 4 new speakers and a Kicker Key. About $450 and a DIY job. It'll sound awesome.

 

I just did mine Kicker speakers and Kicker key amp stock HU ( Entune premium) night and fricken day difference

 

Kicker speakers are new to me.....I guess because I am old. Sounds like they are worth the effort

I did the tweeters and the front speakers... so far.

 

Finally got to looking at the door and dash. Couple of questions. How do you get at the door speakers? Does the grill come off or do you remove the entire door panel? Front and back the same? Looks like 6 x9's on the front and what is the size of the back door round speakers? Second, how about the tweeters? Can you get at them without any great consternation? I assume they are under grills at the dash corners. Thanks for your experience.

 

To get to the doors you have to take off the whole panel. 6x9 in the front, 6.75 in the back. The tweeters take about 10 min to swap out if you go with the Subaru kicker tweeters off Amazon. For everything else I'd order from Crutchfield. When I get my truck back today I'll be doing the door speakers.
