That is a good point. I may consider that, though I don't want to be stranded mid-trip.

Wait for the signal and fix all the things!

ALSO I found a 1999 F250 7.3 single cab, long bed. It has 128k on it, garage kept. Owned by a retired engineer.

Going to look at it and hopefully pick it up!

Yeah, if I was crazy enough to get into a 6.0 I'd probably plan on waiting for that first hiccup and then I'd be doing the full teardown and rebuild.

Trouble with that plan is that with my luck would be that I'd be on my 3rd driveway in the middle of a storm with 1000lbs of plow on the nose when it decided to act up. :notsure:

From what I have read about the 6.0, the biggest things that kill them are tuner kits and not running clean, high-quality oil. Because the 6.0 runs the engine oil at something like 3000 psi and uses it to control the injectors and the turbo vanes any impurities are seriously bad news. And because the head bolts are 'torque to yield' any extra boost (like what you get with a tuner) means you're pooching your head gaskets in no time flat.

Yep. There is a fairly big risk with 'wait and react' method. Some of those don't exactly have a slow death sort of reaction, they're more like a 'boom, headshot' sort of problem.

And I plan on towing cross country in the next year or two... Don't want a headshot in the rockies.

Maybe you should ask your bank what they'd do for a newer vehicle. If you're looking at a $500 monthly payment, you might as well get into something that still has some of that 'new car smell' left.

x2, my local credit union is advertising rates under 3% for a 5 year loan but the vehicle has to be 2017 or newer. It goes up incrementally as the vehicle gets older.

I hear ya, but I’m also paying for the 2017 STi. The whole idea was to get something cheaper yet reliable in the $350-ish range

Yeah those bastards don’t like older vehicles lol.

Check out this beauty though!! 1999 F250 7.3 Lariat. 128,000 miles. Owned by a retired engineer. Going to look at it today. Hopefully taking it home.

    I mean… it’s a Ford, you don’t care
this morning I got to work, got in my cruiser, and went to a small local store that makes home made breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Im at the coffee bar filling my cup, and this woman with a bob haircut, walked up to me and went full "facebook mom" on me. "uh officer the weather went from like...being a speeder...to like....seeing you around a corner and slowing down heheh" I hope this is not an indication on how the rest of my day is going to go:facepalm:

I recognize that she was trying to be nice, but man... who puts horrible office humor like that on someone pre-coffee

anyways.. hope the rest of you guys have a great weekend and GO PATS!

The stories my dad would share were interesting, I can just imagine the shit he didn’t tell me. Thanks for putting on the uniform, it’s not an easy job.

we both know I could have accomplished that that with a straight face:rofl:

I appreciate that! We've all got stories for sure, some better than others. I dont typically talk about what I do for work publicly on here, its not that I keep it under wraps, but I don't advertise. Anyone who's met me ( for longer than a quick intro at the meet) from here would probably agree with that, but it was necessary to paint a picture for this particular occurrence haha

She’s mine! Picked it up for $6,000. Drove it 100 miles home. It drives great!

I almost have my “on-board water system” completed. Push-to-connect fittings for water in, water out. Pump will be hidden in the storage compartment.

Mornin' all. I yanked the plastic drop in bed liner out of the Ferd yesterday and threw it on Craigslist. If anyone here wants it, or knows someone who does, I'll let it go cheap. It's on CL for $100 but I'll say there's a steep friends and family discount, I really want it gone from my yard. I know it fits a 2017+ Super Duty short bed but may fit earlier years also. It's the under rail model and has the tailgate protector panel also.
