I didn't have the scalpel treatment. I had a sharp set of pliers poke a hole.

It constantly feels like I got kicked in the nuts 20 minutes ago. But, it's getting better.

    Interesting.
Correct me where I get something wrong in the following.

Mind you, oak is very dense and heavy.
If memory serves, one of my woodworking reference books says ~40 lbs/c.f. for "Red" Oaks.
So oaks need strong roots. And sometimes they aren't strong enough.

For many years I cut firewood (by permit) in the State Forest here.
The requirement was dead trees only, and I cut up to 10 cords a year.
My unscientific and un-quantified (but empirical) observations:

Oaks (all species collectively) outnumber any other tree species in Michaux State Forest here.
Chestnut Oaks (White Oak family) and Black Oaks ( Red Oak family) mostly.
The State Forests are mainly on mountain land that is very stony.
(Appalachian Trail hikers say PA is where hiking boots go to die).
Especially predominant are Chestnut Oaks where it's stoniest and highest up.
Black Oak a little less (the bright yellow inner bark distinguishes it from Northern Red Oak).
I see fewer Northern Red Oaks on the mountains than the aforementioned types.
Though supposedly Red Oaks are the most numerous oak species in this part of the country.
There are plenty though, along with White Oaks. Other species like Pin Oak, far less.

By far the majority of blowdowns I found when scouting for firewood were oaks.
I figure it's the stony ground and very heavy trees.
Which was good for me. Oak firewood.

By far the majority of blowdowns after storms outside the State Forests are likewise Oaks.
Partly I suppose because there are so many.
But oaks are not what I'd call "good neighbors".
I cut down all the oaks (big ones too) within range of falling on my house.
    Mrs Gritto objected. Tough.

One summer during a ferocious thunderstorm, a Northern Red Oak that I had left standing came down.
I made wainscot for the master bedroom out of that one.
With my Alaskan sawmill I cut the planks...
After sealing the end grain of the planks and seasoning for a few years in my shop, I ran them through a surface planer.
Oak is hard and dulls planer blades pretty quick.
Then on to the shaper to make the tongue and groove.
That was a lot of work and I'll never tackle anything like that again.

Anyway, yeah. We got lots of oak trees here.
Also lots of Gray and Fox Squirrels, as you can well imagine. :p

If you bothered with reading all that, congratulations.

I never said that qualifies, just saying you can't do it without both ingredients. Don't even need the man if you have the ingredients.
