The place I was thinking of going to said the Tacoma's come with 3.91s, including the manuals. I sent them a picture of my code on the door handle for the stock gear ratio and they said nitro told them my truck has 3.73 lol. Not buying that answer and reconsidering using the shop.

I am fairly new and I started my own thread about the Nitro gears. But I am definitely in love with my 5.29's.....take the wife...take the dog....but just don't take my Nitro's!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had experience with a Rubicon that I tricked out big time years ago. Made many modifications and the absolute worse one was when I did a supercharger and had to reprogram the brain...! Huge mistake! I see the OV tune as trying to fool the brain so-to-speak, but the Nitro gears are part of the heart of the Tacoma. Have had no issues what-so-ever and love the smoothness and the power that I am getting out of my Tacoma! Totally different truck since I got them....and it is for the better. I haven't experienced one negative thing about the Nitro's!

Good stuff, but OVT is not fooling a thing, it's outsmarting. Or really replacing the code and it works great.

Hopefully this will provide clarity as to what type of diff oil to use at least with ARB lockers

A month ago I used this table to change my diff oil after the 500 mile break-in but the ARB site was down last night. I’m running the 90 to 140 weight, synthetic right now but when we take the vehicle to Africa we will switch to 140 full synthetic as our truck weighs just under 7,000 empty except for 33 gallons of gas in the tank

No, but next spring when we leave on our journey I was going to change the front pads to the TRD pads, heard good things about them. I did consider going with a high performance slotted rotor but am going to stick with the stock ones. right now the braking performance isn't bad. i'm sure braking distance as lengthened but don't really notice it. I figured since the truck is rated to tow 6,500 lbs (probably using trailer brakes) that it can handle the extra 2,000 lbs

Few more pics of the front.
When asked about gear oil, Andrew @ Altitude Offroad said they’ll be using Lucas Oil 85w-140

Great to hear. I also have a four wheel camper full time so am looking to pull with it a little better.

I have no opinion of whether you are ok or not, but I’ll tell you my experience for comparison.

My 5.29s were REM. ECGS said to expect it to be black with some metal on the magnet at 500. I changed at 250 and then again at 600. The oil was discolored a little at 250, not dark though, with about 1/4 of the metal mush you have there, my magnet wasn’t even as dirty as the picture you took after putting all that other mesh aside on the towel. The oil looked brand new at the 600 change, with very little metal mush, but two very small flakes.

Just for my own piece of mind, I plan to pull the drain plug again in 1000 just to check the magnet, plugging the hole with a finger until I get her back in there and then topping off with fluid.

Makes me wonder how factory gears come out with no break in time or diff fluid change until like 60k miles

The ring looks normal for REM but you have a lot of excessive metal in there with the magnet. I only had a very small mound of grey sludge on my magnet and that was it, just a fine sludge from powdered metal. Hard to say whether the gears and wearing into each other or the install is not 100%
