We are planning some bigger hunts in a few years maybe elk out in CO. How would those rounds hold up in comparison?

Either would be great, but I would prefer my 300 wsm or 300 win mag for elk. Compare the specs against the 6.5

My dad hunts elk in Colorado with .308 and has been dropping them for decades with it. He told me the farthest kill he'll attempt is 600m, and he did get one elk at that distance. You'll be fine with 6.5 Creedmore. My dad's buddies use .270, .308 and .300 winmag for elk.

What’s the recoil like on the 300wsm? I want something that my son will enjoy practicing with so he will be well prepared. He takes after my wife’s side of the family. Much smaller frame than me.

My wife has no issues practicing or hunting with either 300 or 270 wsm.

Debbie almost talked her dad into buying her one as her first car. He opted for new. Ford (Edit - spaced out and forgot to finish this sentence) Tempo instead. I was not happy with the decision but didn't have anything to say about it.

    Is that your rock crawler?

That’s a nice distance! Definitely won’t be shooting that far around here! That being said the CO AZ hunts may offer that kind of opportunity. I have read that 30-06 and 6.5 creedmoor are very similar out to approximately 450 meters...

.243 is a great, easy shooting caliber. Would definitely want a larger caliber for elk sized animals.

The handful of deer I've shot with a gun have all been with .243. Coyotes don't care much for them either.
