Lol I was the same until I started wheeling with some big dogs and I got some damage to the side of my truck. No biggie. Just trying to be safe and not sorry.

They were on someone’s prerunner, so they didn’t see a lot of action. But there’s porosity all through out the set. I’m surprised they didn’t break, but then again they were never used. I’m seeing poor weld prep everywhere and porosity on almost all joints. They were made by someone here on TW. I wanted to use this opportunity to show (non-welding) people what to look for when it comes to quality, especially if you’re paying good money.

All good with me haha. Those were definitely a set built very early on then when I started and didn’t know what I was doing. When I first bought my house nearly 5 years ago I had so much crap in my garage that I had to build my sliders outside for a little while and dealt with a lot of wind. Even with the gas cranked up I struggled with keeping some of the welds from becoming porous. No issues for a while now haha.

I’ve built around 300 sets of sliders on here for various members along with many other welding projects and services and haven’t ever had anyone say that they had a problem with them breaking.

Welds are better now than when I first started haha

Remember that fabrication and welding are two different things. Fabrication is how you build the entire project. Welding is welding it together. I feel bad that you ended up with “poorly” fabricated sliders and hope that you can easily enough fix my mistakes that I made with a very early on set of sliders that I built

Clean it from dirt and oil? If so, I wipe everything down with acetone before spray painting.

Well, I've been practicing welding 45 degree notches, like this, and it's kicking my ass. I think I just need a lot of practice. Very challenging because the angles change so much as you weld around. I have trouble keeping a nice perfect line that follows the curve of the notch. (This pic is the nicest one out of a few.)

I'll just use this, lol. Until it's all gone I'll buy acetone.
    It's nothing but isopropyl alcohol.

Ok, so my amateur welding table will be a 2X4X3/16in plate on 2X2inX11ga square tube frame. Would you guys put a piece across or along for support? Or both?
    Thoughts?

That's a hacksaw?! That's cool. How long does it take to cut through that?

By the way @xPOOPx if those shitty sliders you bought don’t work on your 3rd gen it’s probably because they’re built for a 2nd gen. You’ll have to cut the main square tube back at an angle 3 inches and plate it to accommodate the larger sized cab mounts on the 3rd gens. Just wanted to throw that out there before you post more stuff about how poorly built they are lol
