Was recently offered $30k even for mine on a trade for a $4k off 4Runner, couldn't do it.
I had 7k miles, not one scratch and my payoff is 34k with taxes. I can't live with being charged an additional $4k after turning the truck in, it'll have to stick around for now.

Sold cars for about 4 years. Most dealers use black book aka latest auction prices. Every two weeks a new black book comes out with updated auction prices for used cars. The most reliable way to determine black book trade-in for your Tacoma is to go to KBB and select fair as the condition. Of course there are a lot variables involved but that should be your baseline on what to expect a dealer to offer you. I hope this helps.

You simply compensate the tax savings of a trade in your private party sale.

If one insists on trading, at least don't include it till you are satisfied with a written cash price.

At that point if your trade offer makes you happy, you know your price was still too high.

At worst you pay. At best you move to another dealer with better info to negotiate with.

Buyer lose lose --- dealer win win every time . They never go home and have sellers remorse .

That was the basis of my statement. But like I said in a high tax area it can be worth it. If a dealer is offering $32k. I’m going to have a very hard time selling a used Tacoma for $35k to offset that tax benefit. Not to mention my time and effort and ability to deal with used car shoppers is worth more than a few dollars too. Simple math at play here. Like I said, decent negotiation skills can put you ahead of selling privately.

I always trade for difference. I figure what mine is worth and what kind of discount I can get. Whatever the difference is is what I will do.
This way it does not matter what each individual vehicle costs to me. I usually end up with the manager or finance guy to handle the deal.

Most of that function being extra likes on Instagram.

But yeah, the OR should be worth more than the Sport IMO.

Yea, but if that’s a wash, you didn’t have to deal with knuckleheads trying to buy your truck from an ad. That has value to most people.

Yes sir!! As much as we like to think dealers are evil and out to screw us, they provide a service and a convenience. I personally am willing to pay a margin of my deal for that service and convenience.

Edit: But I still agree they’re out to try and screw us.

Specifics on this purchase? I have a 2016 4Runner Trail Premium so I’m curious.

It's sort of like manual transmission trucks...

They sell for less that AT's.
But the funny thing is the people that want a MT would actually pay more for one.

The OR is a better value if you consider it has all the mechanics of the Sport plus it has the Hydraulic brake booster and its toys as well as the locker rear differential.

BUT it does not look as SEXY as the Sport and the Pro with the Skewp.

99% of people do not need Atrak, CC or a locking differential or ever go off of the street. A lot of 2wd tacomas are sold.
Can't see all that mech stuff so it does not add much value to most people.
100% of the people can see the Skewp and 90% like it.

My brother in law thinks I have a "performance truck" because it has a Skewp.
The ones with the flat hoods aren't performance, so not as good I guess. LOL

This woman would take care of you, be loyal, you'd never have to work a day in your life and never get yelled at..

This one is like a Peggy Bundy,

Tell me which one you would marry, Kissy Kissy or Peggy Bundy...

See the difference a Skewp makes!

I buy and sell a lot of cars and trucks. Mustangs yes for a manual but now an auto is faster, trucks years ago maybe so, today's they are as cold as custard's nuts. I would sell 5 Tacoma with an auto to one manual. I'm just saying.

Understood. My Tacoma was a manual for just fun of rowing gears. Of course an auto is more efficient.
