Mechanic that recently changed the CVs (they failed quickly) must’ve torqued them way too much because I couldn’t get it loose. Just went out there and spent 30 minutes whacking it with a chisel and all I ended up with were some metal shavings and an even more deformed bolt base. Any other ideas?

Locking vise grips will do if you can get it in there and know how to use them properly

grind head off. Take off ball joint and use vice grips on bolt shaft.
Or a 6" pipe wrench if you can get it on the shaft, maybe just channel locks. Maybe it was threadlocked too much, I dunno.

That pic didn't look that bad...how many points is your socket? A good 6 point one might have done it

Tried this, kept slipping off. That pic isn’t up to date anymore. I’ve chiseled a good chunk of it more..: as others have said, I think grinding off the base is the best next step.

Ah ok. Given its location, i would probably drill a hole in the head and then chisel at it. A grinder might be difficult to maneuver in there.

My approach to stuck hardware is grab a propane torch and an infrared thermometer. Heat the area to 180-200F, let it cool a bit, and give a try. A few cycles of heat and cool usually get things moving.

Heat is your friend, heat let it cool, soak with PB, heat again let it cool, on and on till it gives up. Only thing different I'd use would be a oxy/act torch to get that bolt HOT.

Heat it up until it’s molten red
    Down size one socket
Hammer it on there with a big ol’ hammer

Any poster so far mentioning heat has had a round or two with a bitchy bolt. Listen to these guys, but be smart with the heat.

I’ve used air chisels like this. The trick is getting the angle right and getting it started from multiple sides of the head

If you have ATF I’d let some penetrate instead of PB

Get someone to weld a socket to it if the others dont work. weve done it at work on seized bolts on our binder saws.socket smaller than the bolt head so you have something to tac to
