so i picked up a bowtech destroyer 340 a few weeks back and i have not had a chance to post pictures of it yet so here it is. also here are some new arrows i am building for it. i ordered new strings in flo orange and red so i think this is going to look really cool when i am done with it!

by the way i am shooting a 420 grain arrow (29 1/2" draw) at 310FPS:eek: this bow is very fast for the longer brace height.

Nice! Can't wait to hear how it shoots. I'm getting out of the compound/modern bow shooting and hunting and getting back into traditional. Right now I'm shooting my uncles recurve from the '60's but I really want to get my hands on a longbow. This year I'm going to start making my own ceder arrows as well. I want to eventually build a bow from stave blanks. Handmade, stick and string, nothing else. Back to the very basics.

That is the plan for the future. Right now I'm just trying to get my first deer with the recurve. Only went out a few times last year and was limited to public land. Hopefully this year will be better. I wanted to make some arrows and get in some practice with them before opening day (Oct. 1st here in Illinois) but I just don't have the time right now. I guess I'm stuck using last years XX75's. Hell, my pro shop wouldn't even have time to build me any. They've got a two month wait right now just to cut and fletch!

that is a slick set up. those string stops make a huge diffrence.
i put one on my mathews dxt 2 months ago, and could not believe
the diffrence. it was jaw dropping. they take all the vibration out.

i also tried a longer, heavier stabilizer, it makes a big difference at longer
distances. i have always used the sims stuff, they are just a long vibration
dampener. i looked at alot of different ones, i ended up with a stealth 6" with
a weight kit for the end. that was as long as i could fit in bow case, without using a
    quick disconnect.

that sounds fun, but not for me. i like smaking them at 40 and 50 yards.
the range with one of those is like 20 yards. have some friends that went
that route several years ago, they have all gone back to compounds.
they said it was fun to play around with, but wanted more distance.

I'd say I'm consistantly good out to around 25-30 with it. I can hit a tennis ball probably 7 out of 10 times. Where I hunt that's about the average distance for a shot. If I was to go out west where the shots were longer on average, I doubt I'd bring traditional gear and bust out the PSE. Although I'd love to spot and stalk Elk with homemade gear, I'd hate to spend the money to do it and have shot opportunities that were just beyond my range!

you must be some shot. i have talked to alot of people about them, and
they all say 25 yards is like a hail mary. Elk hunting is expensive if you go
on a guided hunt. If i was going to pay $4,000 to $5,000, or more for a elk hunt, i would most likely take a gun. I love bow hunting, and do it 80% of the time, that is just alot of money.

i got a taste of that this year. i went bear hunting in alberta, had very bad weather. i used a bow, the only good bear i saw, and it was a monster, came in at 10:20 pm. i could not shoot it b/c i could not tell
where the leg joined the body. it was just a big black object. by the time
i paid for the hunt, license, guide, plane ticket, etc. i had close to $5,000
in that trip. if i would have had a gun, i would of had a bear. i wanted to
get one with a bow, but that cost me. then i had to listen to the wife.

lol, it will be several years before i go on another hunting trip. b/w that
and doing all the stuff to my truck this year, i have to save some more money. i want to get a bear with a bow, i will go somewhere closer next
    time.

you live in a great place for hunting, you got everything where you are.
we have some huge bears here, in nc, but you can't bait them. there is
a very short season here, and most of the bear hunting is done with dogs. the bears don't hibernate here, that is why they get so big.
there is alot of rual farm land where they have alot to eat also.
