    I'll skip the bitching lol
Was quite surprised to find out this was by design. Factory remote start came standard on my 2020 TRD Sport.

Is there any way to bypass this? Some sort of module or can it be reprogrammed or something? Whats the name of that program people use to change stuff in their computer such as lane shift blinkers and other computer settings?

I saw one work around but I don't think anyone wants the liability of making it common.

Carista will do the blinkers and seat belt chime etc..

Just curious what the liability is? I want to say my past approx 6 rentals all had remote start and I don't remember any of them turning off when the door opened, so far only my Tacoma turns off when I open the door but I thought it was due to it being added after the fact when I purchased the truck.

So are you saying that on the 2020 Tacoma's it also has the shut off when doors are opened. All Toyotas up to the 2020's did not offer the remote factory start, and now when they do it still shuts off when you open doors. Wtf. Makes no sense to me. I can see if it was an aftermarket product added and the security doesn't like it, but if it's factory it should be all the other brands that don't shut off.

Its to prevent the vehicle from being stolen. Due to the nature of the Toyota/Lexus Push To Start once the vehicle has been started it will run until the button is pressed to turn it off or it runs out of gas. So what is to prevent someone from breaking in and staling the car once you have remote started it?

With a normal functioning remote start when the vehicle has been started remotely it will turn off as soon as you press the brake if the key is not present. Since you need to depress the brake to shift out of park noone can steal the vehicle.

Exactly. I had a 1998 Dodge that had this figured out. Toyota just can't get with the times, even 20 years later.

Theft is (should be) stopped, Like most other manufacturers (and aftermarket) remote start, with a brake or clutch lockout. Put your foot on either without the ignition detecting key (or key in ignition) and it cuts engine off.
Someone else on this forum mentioned that it has to do with Toyota’s ignition security, something to do with canbus handover. (Can’t remember the details). But the fact Toyota does this and prittymuch no other manufacturer is stupid.

Can't be good for the truck to be stopping and started all the time either.

Toyota, lexus, honda, acura, and likely many more do this. It sucks, and there is no way to circumvent the shut down. You'll get use to it.

GFs 2016 Mazda CX-5 does this too. Kind of annoying, but you just get in and start it like you normally would anyway.
