'cept you gotta unload the f**king bed just to get to the spare. Not on any other truck.

There is actually a threaded hole in the side if the bed that you can mount your tire if you are so concerned about having the bed loaded and needing the spare.

The tailgate swinging to the side is good for accessing the in bed trunk.

Yes, I owned one, a 2006, before the F-250 that I sold to buy the Tacoma. All were great trucks, suited for different tasks.

The in bed tie down cleats were nice, and there was a pattern if you pressed on the unlock button it would roll down all the windows, nice on a hot day. They were well thought out, first and only Honda I've owned so far, would not rule out another some day.

My dad has been driving the bejeezus out of an 06 ridgeline since new and that thing kicks a surprising amount of ass for truck stuff. When I went and stayed with him for a week, he was towing a 2000lb trailer with 2500lbs of cabinets and counters. Stock tires with almost 70k mileage on them. Another 700-1000lbs of tools in the rear of cab. 1000lbs of flooring in the bed. Repair and recovery gear in the undertrunk. I bet he routinely drives 25% over the rated payload. Loves it- he has 180k miles on it and does all his own maintanence.

He also tows a 4000lb 23' camper with a slideout over the passes from eastern to western WA about once a month. Has been doing that since new also. I wouldnt cross it off my list if I were looking for something other than a tacoma. Interior is more durable, comfortable, ergonomic and spacious than the tacoma for sure.

The Honda Ridgeline fits the bill for what most Tacoma owners actually do with their trucks...

At least the Ridgeline has some space between the back doors and rear tire.

My brother buys terrible truck models too. They don’t last long either.

I am getting 15-16 currently on my 06 tacoma (according to fuelly the average for an 06 tacoma is 16.9 mpg and I have e range tires). My dad says he gets around 17-18 on his ridgeline (on D range tires, but with more towing and mountains than I have in IL). New one might be a little better mpg for both models...

    That Ridgline lean!

For its purpose, I’d drive one. Honda makes great vehicles. My needs don’t fit that purpose though.

    Still stock completely capable!
This is absolutely the truth! Probably shifts better and accelerates better and gets better MPG. 90% of the people on TW would be happier in the Ridgeline but they would rather just complain on here. I would happily buy one for the wife. Would be a perfect vehicle for daily driving.

Fuelly shows the Ridgeline getting from 16.3 - 20.5 depending on the year.

I’d happily drive one as well, but I needed a midsize truck with low range 4wd, since it’s used as a volunteer backcountry SAR and backcountry guiding vehicle.
They’re great vehicles if you don’t need offroad capability, and even then their AWD system is quite impressive.
