2017 Tacoma bad wheel bearing advice

Almost 100% positive my driver side wheel bearing is on it's way out or fairly close to failing.

My truck is a 2017 meaning still well within warranty limits. I've got a 2.5" lift and 17x8 with 0 offset wheels and 265/70/17 tires.

Is it worth having Toyota take a look and confirm that it's the wheel bearing, and then try having them do the work under warranty or is that a lost cause and I should just order up the part and install myself? Will Toyota just blame it on my add ons? Most likely will call tomorrow and talk to someone just to feel them out before making an appointment.


Symptoms.

At first I thought it was the rear diff but over the past month the sound has gotten louder in general and more noticeable when turning right while coasting at highway speeds, as well as a jerky ride and steering wheel vibrations.

 

Take it in for warranty work if they deny just do it yourself.

 

I wouldn’t call and feel anybody out.

Take it in for repair. They’ll either fix it or they’ll blame you, and offer to repair for a price.

Then you can decide.

If you call and suggest it might be because your lift and tires then you’re already shooting yourself in the foot.

 

Even if you have to do it yourself, check the 2nd Gen forum, owners are doing them all the time in there. A member there sells affordable new Koyo pressed bearings.

Seems little early for this thing to be going out

 

Beauty of mechanical parts. They don’t have an expiration or good till date

 

How many miles? There’s a lot of owners changing them out with less than 100k miles.

Yeah not a lot of miles. Did you replace the ds front diff bearing to the ECGS solid bushing?

 

Not yet but my symptoms don't match that of a failed needle bearing. Especially with the famous 2wd to 4wd test. No noticeable change noise or vibrations

 

The truck also feels like something is kind of binding and holding the truck back, sometimes too. Not sure what that is.

 

Jack up the front, grab the top of the wheel pushing it in and pulling it out and see if there is any play in the bearing. There should be zero play in the wheel side to side.

 

Got under my truck today inner cv driver side has lots of play in sleeve....might be bad needle bearing lol. Like way more play than the passenger side

@El Duderino know who does ECGS bushing on Oahu?

Any shops in town or windward side do it?

 

I have no idea I always just have Jason do the non servco stuff on my truck
