Why should foreign autos have better tech? My Ram is way, way ahead of any Toyota in terms of interior quality and included tech stuff.

    It won’t hurt anything.

I have an after market remote starter I got on sale at Amazon for $120. It also shuts off when any door opens or 15 minutes pass. I figured it’s a safety feature so no one steals it. I have no problem with that in the city. If you have no concerns about theft, you could try leaving the windows open and hopping in.

Just starting out, give me time
How can it be a safety feature when you still need the physical fob or key to actually keep it running when you try to drive it.

Can you confirm that the truck will shut off after a certain distance away from the key fob? Is this applicable to all years?

It is my understanding that you only need the key to start it, but once it’s been turned on it will remain running until manually shut off or it runs out of gas. Under this logic a thief can still wreak havoc.

I have a aftermarket remote start and it doesn’t shut off when the door opens.
If I hit the remote start it will lock the doors and then start.
When I get to the truck I press the unlock button jump in put the key in the ignition turn the key to run press the brake and I’m set to put in gear and drive off.
If I step on the break without the key in the ignition it will shut off.
It will also run about 10 minutes before shutting down if I do nothing after remote starting it.

2nd gens can do that, 3rd gens, at least the push button start versions, can’t.

No ones going to address the fact that he’s claiming “factory” remote start? Just because a dealer adds that on doesn’t mean it’s factory. Unless I missed something on Toyota main site that states that as an optional feature I’m pretty sure the dealer added it (as part of the addendum) to raise the price of the truck on you.

^^^ what he said. Your ‘factory’ remote start is a port installed 3rd party accessory, or perhaps even at the dealer. Same thing everyone else is buying.

On the 2020's - remote start is NOT a dealer installed option. It's done through remote connect and you can lock, unlock, and start the truck from anywhere with an app on your phone.

Well how ‘bout that... I learned something today. We’ve been shopping for a car for the wife and every single car we’ve looked at offered app remote start on top of keyfob.

I don’t know where I comes from but my dealer didn’t install it. The Canadian website lists it as a standard feature on all models above the SR. I assume it’s factory lol. I guess it’s still not standard on 2020 US models?

Toyota/Lexus are very conservative when it comes to new technology. They like to wait for it to fully mature. It's why Toyota and Lexus are rated so much higher in reliability than Fiats.

why it took until 2020 to get power seats. The truck loaded out has less features than my 07 gti. Glad they’re waiting for that tech to really mature

I was talking about Toyota as a whole. It's pretty well known that the Tacomas and 4Runners tend to get tech upgrades last in the line up.

I know man. Toyota and Honda are similar in that regard. High reliability, but mundane old tech. The 4 runner is the biggest offender, nice vehicle but the interior is super spartan. Back to topic, all push button start with remote start turn off when you open the door.

Once it's warmed up it has nearly zero impact. Think of all the new vehicles now with start-stop tech that do this dozens if not hundreds of times per day.

It used to be an issue with heavier oil, loose engine tolerances, and slower oil pumps but now, oil pressure is there so fast and the synthetic/hybrid oils coat parts better that startup wear is all but gone.

Most all domestics have engine stop/start every time you come to a stop. I'd say the wear is minimal at this day in age.
