So our old lady Auggie went to the vet yesterday. She’s just over 16 years old now and they believe she’s got kidney failure.
She wouldn’t eat Wednesday and apparently is down in weight to under 9lbs.
They put her on an appetite enhancing med and today she ate like a champ.
Also seems to be in much better spirits and not nearly as lethargic as she was on wed/thurs.

Here’s hoping it’s just a bump in the road for this old girl.

Saw one of those when I was offroading in the mountain/forest area outside of LA over summer. First time I'd ever seen one in person. Was only for a second before it ran off, but it's ~5ft long tail gave it away...never seen a cat with such a long tail lol.

They are pretty rare in our forests out here nowadays so it was cool to see in real life. One of them was hit and killed by a car on the freeway not too long ago :(

My old cat Sparky was diagnosed with kidney failure at about 16 years but with meds and special diet she lived to age 20.

Hoping for the best for Auggie.

I like the orange convict idea, haha. Harley has had a black and white skull & crossbones collar for years so it will be hard for me to get rid of it...

My wife's cats straight up won't wear collars, they go to great lengths to take them off if we try

Brilliant idea. My cats never go outside and they have no interest in being out there. Too cold, I think.

When I lived in the city I used to have a collar on my cat Bellatrix. She was all black and huge, so I put a leather spiked collar on her along with a charm that had my phone number on it. Of all the times she got out, nobody ever called me. Strange, isn't it?

    Auggie update:
She got injection to hydrate her and they’ve given us some pills to help increase her appetite.
They certainly work, she’s putting down full meals again.
She’s not very active but in reality she’s never been... one thing we’ve noticed that she’s found a new “Comfy spot” in the kitchen in the space where our new dishwasher will be going. She’s out of the way but still able to observe and inspect what all is going on.

Last week she stopped greeting me in the morning at my bedroom door but this morning she was back to it so I believe that’s a good sign.
    :fingerscrossed:
She’s got a lot of miles on her but she’s not ready to check out just yet.

That's good to hear. Is she able to drink water on her own? My ex had an older cat that developed severe kidney issues and we had to give her saline injections to hydrate her twice a day, it was not fun :(

Yes, no problem drinking from the dish at all.

She actually left the kitchen for the first time in 4 days to go back to her favorite spot on my daughters bed.

    I think that’s a good sign. :D
