Gary is right on that Mike. When the time is right, you'll know. I looked at everything financial and health wise and talked to the wife and finally I said enough is enough and told the boss I was done and retiring....He laughed and told me I wasn't going anywhere. It sucked to be him when I showed up on my last day and said good bye to everyone. I had the last laugh. Life has been good since.

    That’s great.

If I waited for financial and health they would pick me up with the forks on the skid steer and drop me in the back pond.

I started planning every last cent of retirement finances , talked to the wife, financial planner.
Did the numbers over and over.
    Talked and planned.
Was going 2 to 4 more years.
Then my company made the carrot much bigger.
I was gone in 3 weeks.

When it is time, the curb your are about to step off seems so much smaller.

I've been self employed since 1980. Not quite retired but cut way back on doing work for others. We planned & saved for retirement & have reached our goals. It's good to have a travel budget too.
My wife retired last year & she's also busy all the time. I guess it's how you define retirement.

    Agreed

I have some friends who take retirement to me sitting in front of the TV.

I retired differently, everyday is a new opportunity to do something I want to do, watching TV does make the top 50 list.

I own and operate a climbing gear and safety supply store, so basically I'm retired. I just come in every day to tinker with new gear and BS with customers. If it's a pretty day, I leave the store with my loyal employee and hit the trails or whatever. I guess if someone were to buy me out, I'd hang out in my home shop and tinker with my woodworking or hit the trails on pretty days. Zero stress and easy going time the last few years....

When do you have the time to hunt and fish. Laughing with Ken not at you. I am often amazed that working full time and taking care of your family and home you are able to fit in an active life style. You are going to so like retirement.

    LOL
    Boy I hope so.
My only thing is giving up the power of my vehicles as in inspections and diag as I won't have access to the equipment. Still be able to do 95% of the stuff but it's the 5% that makes me so uneasy.

    Wasn't upset with ya..

How was your PA weekend Tom? Beautiful Saturday, but a chilly, drizzly day yesterday.

I miss our friend Carl when he doesn't check in.

No doubt he is busy with some projects around his property.

Great weekend Ken. Colors were just starting to turn. In another 7 to 10 days they will be great.

My cousin talked me into a cruise in 2021. The wife wants to go but I need to go over the cost with her. If we go that will be 7 cousins and spouses going. June of 2021 so plenty of time to plan stuff. We need to reserve in the next 2 weeks to take advantage of AAA perks and discounts. Still the cost will be close to 20K for 2 weeks. I did make an appointment with AAA for next Monday. Wife is off on Monday next week. Already booked new tire installation in the AM for the Avalon.

Hi Tom, where is the cruise to? Is it an all inclusive cruise (liquor, beer, shore excursions, Etc.) I have friends that are booked on a 12 day river cruise in Europe and that is costing them $12000 for both of them. I would rather not cruise since I had a 6 month cruise in '71 but the wife is kicking it around that maybe someday we'll do a cruise...We are getting ready for our Iceland trip on October 19 to the 24th. Wife wants to see the northern lights. Only if the sky is reasonably clear and not overcast will she get her wish. If we see it, I'll video it with my GoPro and she'll take pictures. Hoping for good weather so she isn't miserable for the week :D.

Viking cruise from Stockholm to Norway. 14 day cruise all inclusive with 1 excursion a day included. We might add on Iceland before or after the cruise.
