3RZ EGR Delete

I did. I trimmed it up so that it had just a bit more than it needed to reach the back. I did the same on two trucks without issues.

 

Alright. Then I have no idea what’s causing the code. 10k 1/4 watt 5% is what I am using. Not sure what the 5% means. Any idea on that? Thanks again for the quick replies.

 

I honestly don't know what that means either. These are the ones that I bought:

You sure that the code you're getting is for the EGR sensor?

 

Yep. P0401. EGR insufficient flow. I got the 1/4 watt and it looks like you used the 1/2 watt. Not sure if that makes all the difference but it may be worth a try.

 

Yeah could possibly be the difference. IDK enough about electronics to be able to explain the difference. It's worth a shot. If you have trouble finding them, I still have a shit load of them. LMK if you want me to mail you a few. Just PM me your address if you want them.

 

Awesome thanks. I will just order some. Don’t want you to pay to ship them to me. I will repost if this solves the CEL issue. Just curious, do you know if this will pass inspection in NC if there is no CEL?

 

I have no clue what emissions testing is like for you guys there. I do know that here they check for codes and hook up a tail pipe sniffer and it passed no problem with that resistor in

 

I did this a year ago. The resistor thing is giving me some hell. I can clear the code and it doesnt come on for 2 months then it pops on EGR flow excessive. I just keep resetting it. I know the resister is the right one. just a strange gremlin i guess

 

hey guys, i just fallowed your thread here and did the egr delete. i ordered the same resistors, waiting for them to show up. i do however have a question. when you say the egr connector get a resistor, do you mean the green 2 pin conector under intake manifold that plugs into a green thing with 2 vacuume lines that go to the egr or is it the plug that goes to the intake with the gray connector? im assuming its the green one?? so far so good otherwise. no codes yet. I mean i did have 2 codes p0100 and p0110 but i forgot to plug in MAF. plugged it in, cleared the codes and so far so good.

Ok so what do I do with the green one? Just leave it unplugged?

 

I don’t remember what I did. I’m at work until way later when I can look at mine. I remember the other one being unsolderable and I ended up using crimps to attach the resistor.

 

I’m having issues too. Did the resistor also but have a miss sound in the exhaust don’t feel it. Light just popped on still need to see what’s the code.

 

Any luck with your truck mines doing the same??

 

I don’t see how just tossing in a fixed value resistor is going to fool the ecm forever. It’s gonna be looking for changing values, isn’t it?

 

Near as I can tell one connector runs the valve, and the one that gets the resistor is a temperature sensor to read exhaust gas temperature somewhere. Putting a 10k resistor is telling the computer that the exhaust gas temperature is always the same no matter what signal is sent to the valve.

Pretty hard to guess what might throw a code. I think I'd have to drive around with a meter plugged into mine to get an idea of what the computer expects.

 

It would be nice to figure this out. Not that people should just be ripping them out but they are expensive and a pain to mess with them. Plus, who wants dirty hot exhaust gasses dumped over the intake? I would like to remove mine

 

I dunno, I've been reading a little about what and why of egr. The concept seems sound, but the implementation of it is fraught with annoying things like exhaust gasses and vacuum.

That said mine has some minor idle issues so I'm wondering if my EGR is working right.

 

I believe they to be closed at idle. You can actually suck on the vacuum line and hear it open and close (truck off) and if running and you suck on it while idling it will stall out

 

I'm wondering if mine is closing only partially and allowing exhaust gases in when it's not supposed to. It's got 200k miles on it after all.
