Doesn't look like a coolant leak to me.

Looks like somebody splashed something (soap solution?) on it (to me, anyways). You still have the original hose clamps on the upper hose, and those rarely, if ever, leak.

    1. Any other wet spots, especially down lower than what you can see from your photo?
    2. How's your coolant level doing - is it dropping any?
    3. What does the white stuff smell like? (You should wet it with some spray first, then smell it.) If it were coolant, it should smell slightly sweet.
I would say drive it and check the coolant level every day. The water pump is lower than those white splashes, and most leaks occur from the water pump.

Coolant or not, whatever it is got into the fan and flung it everywhere. Look near and around your fan for a leak

my upper radiator hose started leaking after recent cooling system exchange this past summer and i am (or was) trying to pinpoint exactly why!?
    original silverish clamps seemed ok
this side goes into the engine, where the leak was on top of the TB cover

Maybe you or somebody else replaced the original Toyota coolant with Preston or some other, like green, coolant? In any event, I would replace both hoses. If whatever clamps you are using are still good, I wouldn't have any problems reusing them. ;)

i don't think the local Toyota dealer(s) would use inferior coolant? that is the only place that has serviced it in 22 years, I was just curious about all the buildup which is probably why it started leaking :notsure:

Oh, okay. I don't think you mentioned that the dealer serviced your Tacoma over the years.
