Rear Window Problems

If there is any threads on this problem, please feel free to post a link, I have been searching for over and hour and could not find anything so i thought id just post.

Anyway, I have a 2006 DC tacoma and the rear driver window doesnt work 95% of the time. I will hit the switch and nothing happens, or it will just roll down a half inch, so then it will take a few times of hitting the switch to get it back up. And On occasion, i will be able to roll it up and down with no problems. Have any of you had this problem before? is it a bad connection? wiring? I know it isnt necessary for it to work, but it is just one of those things that just drives you crazy. Thanks!

 

Sounds like bad wiring, a short in the switch. I used to work in the autoglass area and the symptoms you describe sound like a bad switch, which is pretty rare on a toyota.just my .02

 

I'd take the panel off, start looking at connections. Also you can try spraying some electronics cleaner into the switch to see if perhaps there's something blocking continuity...

 

I would also check to see if the window operates correctly from its door vs driver's door. That will tell you if it is a switch connection or a connection at the motor. Start segmenting the possible areas with troubleshooting and you will save yourself countless hours of headaches.

I had the exact same problem w/ '06 DC right rear door....when it first begin it seemed to hang when the passenger window swithc was used. I could use the drivers door switch to get it to roll back up. It did that for a couple of months until it finally quit all together. It got stuck in the down position and nothing I did could get it to roll up. I finally took panel off and took window off the track and fixed it in place. I haven't had the money to get it corrected as of yet. I did check on a price for a window motor and it was around $280 at the Toyota dealership.

 

I had the same issue, mine was fixed case my truck was 8 months old, it ended up being a bad switch.

 

I wonder what a new switch would set you back.

 

They're pretty expensive, around $120 I think. It's not just a basic switch but rather all four window switches are on a single PCB. Peeps were looking into it to try an do an all auto-down/up mod.

 

sorry, i forgot to mention that it does the same exact thing for the front and rear switch. So im guessing the window motor? i have the panel off now and all the conections are good.

 

Double check all the connectors - if they are all good then I'd say motor. If you have a way to test the connectors, I would say do it now. If not, get ready to swap a motor either way probably.

 

My money's on the master switch on the driver's door. Motors are not usually an intermittent failure. It's unlikely that both switches failed at the same time. The driver's switch gets the most use, and on most vehicles, power or ground for the rear and passenger window switches goes through the master switch first.

Look up the factory service manual on TTORA, the wiring diagrams should get you started on troubleshooting. I had the same symptoms on a family member's Dodge truck. Ended up being the the master switch. That vehicle ran the ground for all the passenger windows through the master switch. I know it's not a toyota, but I doubt they are that much different. Only so many ways to wire a couple of window motors up.

 

Have the same problem with my dad's Expedition. It the switch.
