I recently bought a 07 base trd with a Toytec lift. It looks to me like it is their non adjustable 3". The rear has a extra leaf and a small block.

I would like to drop it to 2-2.5 lift. As is it looks great but I think it could could drive and ride better.
I need info on what is the easiest way to do this, I can do the work myself. Work at a machine shop so have access to a mill.
Can I mill 1/4" off what looks to be an aluminum spacer? Or replace it will a stock mount. If that drops too much I could do stock + 1/4" spacer.

For the rear I will mod the lift block.

Here is a picture, mine is the top. The bottom I got off this site.strut.jpg

You start milling your suspension parts and you’re going to end up fucking yourself in the ass. Better just have a shop swap your springs out for something with less lift

Welcome to the forum. I believe they sale a leveling kit with the specs that you want. I believe that it’s actually 1 1/4 thick and it gives you 2 1/2 inches. Also you can get some billies 5100 that are adjustable but it rides harsh, so me personally I don’t recommend it. That’s what I have right now and I can’t wait to go back to spacers since I don’t do any off-road at all.

I don't have the stock parts and don't want to put much money in this project. I don't think milling a spacer is going fuck me in the ass, I am pretty sure I can pull this off and I will not be taking it to a shop.
I was hoping someone that had experience with installing Taco lifts could point out the best method to end up where I want to be.
Mill spacer or replace with a stock top mount? Will stock mount drop too much and need a small spacer?

I don't know how that spacer is machined, but if it is formed to accept the spring, it will be difficult to shorten. You may be able to press out the studs, plane the top, and press new studs in. The adjustment you make at the strut will be about 1/2 what you see at the wheel. In other words, shortening the spacer 1/2" will drop the truck 1"

First. That looks like the Toytec coilover thats uses the Billie 5100 set at zero. Call Toytec and ask them how much of the lift is coming from the coil spring and how much from their top hat. Then you can decide what plan of action to take.

Thanks, Yes I found that it is around a 2:1 ratio. I might have to take it apart to form a plan.
I need to measure how thick it is now, being aluminum may not be good to get too thin. I might get a stock mount so I can measure the difference.

The color of the coil and the tophat/spacer leads me to believe it is this: which is already a 3 inch lift. The coil I believe provides about 1.6 inches of lift. You could take out that spacer and replace it with a traditional top plate, although that would be below the 2-2.5 you want. Or you could pick up one of their 1/8'' spacers to get you back up to 2" range. Pretty sure the shock is the adjustable billy, so you could also remove the spacer and then preload them to the first notch to get to where you want. That's a popular option to get to 2.5 on this site.

Imo. A 1/2” isn’t gonna make a difference if you keep the same springs and shocks. As for the way it’s drives get the alignment checked. I’ll have those same Toytecs on my 2015 it rides fine and drives great. If they been on there since 07 may just be time for some new stuff. Good luck!!

The piece you are talking about milling is a solid aluminum block. You understand the 2:1 lift ratio. You are able to mill aluminum.

This job is in your wheel house. Mill 1/4" off those blocks, reinstall. Enjoy your truck.

Thanks, guys. The prior owner just bought the lift and 270/65 R17 tires 10K miles ago.

From reading here it sounds like any lift over 2.5 you can't get the caster and camber right without A arms. So my plan is get it down to that then get it alined. I have a local shop that will set it to what ever I want.
It has so little drop now that IMO an addition 1/2" of down travel would help the ride. Also reducing the angle on the tie rod could help, it might be time to get tie rod ends anyway.

ETA: I asked Toytec but never got a reply.

I see when I type Toytec it made a link, I clicked and found they have a section here. I did not know that, I should of asked there.
Anyway, on their web site the springs listed in the kit I believe I have are sold separately as 2.5" with optional 1/2-3/4" lift spacers for 3" total.
That makes me think OEM top mounts will get me to 2.5" with minimal work and be reversible.

Machine it off the surface that touches the spring (if its a flat spring seating surface). This will drop your lift by lowering preload which will change your ride.

The underside is actually machined with a channel for the spring to sit in so the spring doesn’t spin it’s not a flat surface.

I can get both stock mounts for $40, I'm going to do that. Might buy a 1" rear block to replace the 1.5", they are only $44. I will be under $100 and reversible, not have to bother milling anything.

OK, not sure how soon I'll get this done. Want to have all the parts for when I have a free day to do it.

just replace the toytec top hat with a oem one.. that will drop the front down to 2.5".

2.5" is gained from the toytec coils and .5" lift is gain from the toytec top hat spacer.
