Remote Start Shuts Off When Door Opens?

Is there such a thing as factory remote start on Tacos?

I only knew of Gulf state distributors and dealer options.

 

2020's started first year for this option. Kind of like OnStar for Chevy, but for Toyota. Before this it was only available through aftermarket

 

I did this once while I was camping and could not hear the horn beep,. I did see the truck lights light up the camper though to my surprise. Scared the crap out of me.

 

Again, the bypass switch would only be connected to the door open/close switch, so the door lock would not be affected. Unlocking the door from the fob or from touching the door handle will unlock the door, but not kill the engine - opening the door is what kills the engine.

 

Ah.

 

Ok, so this will not work. I guess if it was that simple, it would have been done already. As others have pointed out, after a remote start command, even if you could get past opening the door, pressing the brake pedal (which you have to do to shift out of park) also kills the engine. I should have tried this before posting, sorry! Oh well.

 

I have a factory remote start on my 2018 OR. Came out in Canada just last October when I bought my tacoma then. Toyota call it START+ long range remote start. It came with a remote start fob, good for 2600 ft but must have direct line of sight to start it. It can also use the factory fob to start it by hitting the lock button 3 times but its limited to that fob range. Yes, it will stop when the doors are open.

Forgot to mention it's a dealer installed option, but it's still a genuine toyota part

 

This is what I understood. Gulf States Toyota is where dealers in my region add "distributor" options, before dealers add "dealer" options.

Apparently 2020 now has true factory option, but for all I know the person who posted that may or may not be correct. I'm too tired to check.

 

When configuring a build quote on Toyota.com, the zip code changes the options available. I believe this is because the configuration includes non factory parts from the distributor. I could not find a factory option for remote start on the 2020 Tacoma, but I only bothered to look up OR and Pro.

I really think that what the OP refers to as factory, is not factory, but distributor from his region.

I don't know for sure, and I really don't know how to find out.

Example on the 2018 Tacoma I purchased came with a locking tailgate. That is not factory, but Gulf States Toyota add on, but I did not know this as on my sticker it is listed as part of the base vehicle.

 

Your Canadian distributor may mandate it on all the vehicles it sells to your dealers, but that is different from "factory" , "OEM" and "Standard".

As a consumer, I don't think there is a way to tell if it is distributor or factory, but if dealer installed, it should be broken out.

 

I honestly don’t know but I’m pretty much positive that is wasn’t my dealer unless they lied to me. The Toyota.ca website says it which led me to believe it was factory but yeah could be distributer as I didn’t consider that. I think it’s just the long range remote starter that is usually just a dealer installed option, and then you can use remote connect as well by communicating through the DCM.

I just know the dealer chimed in that they didn’t have to install it on the 2020 models.

I know this was an option on Entune 3.0 equipped vehicles but the 2019 Tacoma did not have it.

The 2020 Tacoma has that option, but Remote Connect is not listed in my region.

Either the marketing team did not list it, or it is not factory equipped and up to the distributor.

Either way this is a level above what distributors were installing before.

 

Or you could have just activated the remote start while already sitting in the drivers seat. LOL

I tried leaving the door open and started the truck with the fob.....stepped in, and the truck died when I tried to move the lever, but I suppose it was the brake that did it

 

I tried that but the truck wasn't letting me lock the doors with the key fob still inside the truck :/

 

It is a factory item that included with any "Premium Audio" system.

Toyota doesn't specifically say "Remote Start" on their descriptions, it's part of what they call "Remote Connect" - which is what all of their marketing material sates.


If you open up an incognito browser window, don't type in a zip code, go to the 2020 Tacoma page and click specs on the right next to the red build button, then scroll down to multi-media and expand that section you'll see that the first 3 items just say "Audio" and the next 3 say "Premium Audio".

 

Hmmm, didn't think about that. Mine allowed it, after hitting lock 3 times on the fob it fired right up. I guess the Fortin unit I have doesn't care about the fob being in the cab.
