New member here. I am finally making the transition to a truck and debating size as well as brand. We already have a Highlander which my wife uses and it meets our needs (weekend travel, etc.) as a family of 4. I was originally thinking of a full size. My friend has a new crewmax Tundra Ltd. which I test drove and it’s great. However, it may be too much truck for my needs, so I am now back to looking at mid size trucks. Because of my job, I go to people’s houses/driveways a lot and sometimes have to park in sketchy situations. That’s the main reason for me to consider a mid size truck. I do a lot of kayaking and fishing, tow a 2000lb trailer twice a year, as well as regular dump and basic yard work runs. I also want some luxury in this truck, leather seats, etc.

Long story short, I am trying choose between a used Double Cab Short bed Tacoma Ltd (‘16 or higher, max 40k miles) or a comparable used Canyon/Colorado (Denali). I have yet to drive either one. Their pricing seems to be similar in the low-mid $30K. I also debated leasing a Taco (good deals right now), but it holds up its value so much that buying may make more sense. Anyway, there’s my dilemma. Any opinions would be apprecitaed.

Considering this is a Tacoma forum, the answers you get here will most likely be biased toward the Tacoma.

Thanks, I figured as much :) And I'm leaning towards Tacoma anyway, I am curious if others had similar dilemmas and what they considered in their final decision.

I also was debating on midsize trucks. Went with a 2019 Tacoma. Like the look the best plus the long term reliability is what sold me. It now seems like the possible mods to this truck are endless so who knows what it will actually cost in the long run

You should drive them, they handle very differently, only you will know which style your like better. Colorado is like a Cadillac while the Tacoma is like a truck.

This ended up with me getting a used 3rd Gen Limited in Magnetic Gray. I didn't even test drive the Canyon once I researched the transmission issues. Very pleased so far...

I drove the Colorado, new ranger, and Tacoma and ended up with a new 19 TRD OR. As was mentioned above, the Tacoma felt most like a ‘truck’- I found the Colorado and ranger both seemed to feel like a ford or Chevy suv with a bed, if that makes any sense. I like the more vertical dash and windshield on the Tacoma better. The biggest thing for me came down to resale- the new prices are all very similar, but I think the resale on the Toyota will be best. Good luck!
