I use my 10” 1/2 to 3/8 extension with a swivel socket. 1 blip with a 1/2” impact and it’s off. I start with those 2 bolts. Then remove all the bottom ones, the. The side ones. The clutch can be done in a weekend if you’ve got all the parts and a machine shop that machines the flywheel (a day if you just replace the flywheel)

Ill have to ask our machinist at work if he could do it.

Is dropping the tranny best done with removing the t case first? I need to do the input/output shaft seals too so its gotta come off at some point.

I remove them with the t case. But it does make it easier to remove it before you do take the trans out

Hahahah I feel for ya. I got pretty lucky as I did all my hard wheeling when I first got into it and got it out of my system and fortunately I was always in a solid axle suspensions. And only blew one Birfield axle in all those years, and it was wet slickrock and the wife was driving when it blew lol, just bad luck.
What's funny is, if that Moab trip actually goes down I'll be wheeling the first 100 series I built. On 35s, factory locked rear, metal tech sliders, arb front with titan winch, 4x4Labs rear with Jerry cans and tire carrier, etc. You get the idea. It'll be fun

    Rounded up a tad, I only had a 3’ and a 6’.

Could’ve gotten away with the 6’ but it was easier with the extra length.

@Blue92 I totally butchered that, it was about 6-7 feet. It’s the entire HF long extension kit plus another 12” extension. With the gun it’s about ~ 8’. I went longer than I needed to for the articulation.

It's labor/time intensive so you'll definitely save lots of money. I'd easily do the new disc and clutch kit since you're in there for the seal anyways. You'll be dropping the tranny right? Maybe factor in resurface of the flywheel or new one. And then clutch should come as kit right? With the disc and pressure plate, etc. I would think you'd be okay doing it, do you have a helper in case you need extra set of hands? Pops? Someone?

Yeah I would remove the transfer case. I mated the drivetrain with the t-case on and my Jack was struggling. Makes it rear heavy.

Yeah this is exactly how I've gotten to those bolts, kinda standard way to get to many of those upper bell housing bolts on most trucks

Yeah it sucks. Not as much as mating the transmission to the engine though. Getting it onto those dowel pins are impossible.
