I'm not a mechanic. That being said, how do I begin the process of trying to find a replacement engine that's not made up of re-manufactured Chinese parts? Does anyone know of a quality rebuilt 2005 Tacoma engine? I have a small amount of antifreeze in #6 cylinder. Put in stop leak and it's holding. Don't know for how long. My truck has 200,000 plus miles on it so I'm looking for a complete replacement.

I'd personally be looking for wrecked take-out engines that are Toyota original. I trust a factory engine with miles on it than anything built by anybody else.

Check out Jasper for a used engine. Id also recommend pulling the valve cover on the passenger side before buying to get a better idea as to how well it was maintained

Isn't Jasper pretty unanimously agreed upon to be the shitty Wal-Mart of engine builders? I have no experience but I see them getting shit on ALL the time.

This is the first i've heard of this.. But, that is one of the reasons i recommend pulling the passenger valve cover. You should be able to tell if a used motor has been neglected by peeking in there..

Car-part.com is another great resource to look for motors out of salvaged trucks

If you're not a mechanic I assume you'll be paying one to do the swap. I'd find a mechanic I trust 1st then ask his opinion.

    There’s one list for $2,850 - 35K miles...

Didn’t know how easy that could be. I was always skeptical when someone says, “find a low mileage used...”

    Thanks for the link @JustinL
