19 TRD Pro Tire Question

Needing some more aggressive rubber on the new ride. After looking around I see 265/75r16 should fit me completely stock. I'm gonna be pulling a cargo trailer hunting so want to keep it pretty low-key. Is anyone running the Achilles Desert Hawk X-MT in this size?

Achilles makes some of the cheapest tires on the market. In other words they are junk.
Wait for the Thanksgiving/Black Friday deals that discount tire will be running. Get a quality brand at a comparable price.

 

Gotcha. What about Maxxis? Bout to go on a hunting trip so kind of need to grab something.

 

If you can afford a pro you can afford decent tires..I got my wildpeaks mounted otd for 600 from Americas tire

 

If you want aggressive, look at Duratracs or Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

 

I was just looking for Bang for the buck. Paying 300 a tire isn’t an issue but I’m not into paying too much of their advertising costs.

 

I think the wildpeaks are the best bang for the buck, got them for 125 a pop in your size (they price match). I was planning on nitto ridge grapplers at first but they were about 900 mounted otd so I took a chance on the wildpeaks (was hesitant since I read a ton of reviews saying they had mounting and vibration issues). So far they've been great on and off road and I'll probably get another set when the time comes

If you do go the Americas tire/discount tire route make sure to tell them you want your old tires back, otherwise they charge you another $10 tire disposal fee. I sold my take offs for $100

 

I would much rather use Maxxis before I would use Achilles. I have only seen Maxxis in the dirtbike world. My buddy did have some good luck with a set of Kenda MT's.

They do seem to be put together a bit better.

 

Both of these are a bit too tame more of the AT variety vs a MT tire. AT I like Toyo open country at2 or bfg ko2.

 

NRGs are more expensive than Wildpeaks, but they are also more aggressive. Just kinda depends what you're looking for. Both good tires.

 

Well, the NRGs are actually a hybrid tire so certainly more aggressive than a KO2. You sure you didn't look at the Terra Grapplers?

 

No the NRG is closer but still not enough lug and I do like em they look great. The slick hills I will have to climb that are a clay loam will pack those full quick then you just slide down the hill backwards. Let me look at em a bit harder.

 

My suggestion would be Toyo Open Country R/T. Big fan of their hybrid aspect for on road and off-road functionality. They have a 45,000 mile warranty too. Here they are mine on my Pro in 265/75/16 with 20k miles on them with a ton of life left. I understand your marketing concern for premium pricing but tires and safety items are not something you want to skimp on.

 

Thx, yea I'm a fan of Toyo I had em on my Denali 3500 and that meant buying six of them. The AT2s wore like iron even on that heavy truck pulling some serious weight.

 

The Duratracs and NRGs are in a newish category of tire called hybrid tires. The Toyo's do too I believe.
