Hey, 2 min for a cut like that really isn’t too bad. I’m surprised it’s still kicking after 90 years.

Agreed, the old shit is pretty cool and should be kept kicking as long as possible.

All good dude. It’s progression. And I got them because I knew I could fix them, they’re not poorly fabricated. The fit up is great and the angled gusset is something I haven’t seen before. The welds were lacking only because experience. I’m looking forward to repairing these because Im looking to make another set myself soon. By all means don’t let me get you down, I hope you keep pushing it in fabrication. I do, I work in aerospace and the old timers here put me on game everyday.

Every great welder/fabricator was a shitty one at some time.

I come across some of my earlier stuff all the time. I always think "someone actually paid me for this shit!"?

Speaking of new welders who have no idea what they are doing...

Doing a seat swap project on my taco. Seats are out of an RSX and I cut the mounts off my current seat and am welding it to the RSX seat rails.

Damn slag holes get me every time.

(Don’t worry it won’t be left like this lol)

But I’m happy with this one:

    FC4EE680-3CAD-4E8F-9A51-73A26BCF9654.jpg

Super thin material, less than an 1/8” for sure. Been jumping back and for between 6011 for filling gaps and 6013 on the tight fit ups.

    This is exactly the cause.

Any hollow tube needs vent holes if it’s gonna be completely welded shut on both ends (which is most tube work). It’s super common with guys when they first start doing tubing work. You’ll see porosity in the ends of most of their welds as that’s where the expanding air inside of the tube was venting out the joint. You can wait for the tube to cool down and finish the weld, but that’s not 100% successful. Adding vent holes in between tubes is the ideal way to fix the issues. It a big issue when building roll cages.

Same thing can happen when welding tabs or new tubes onto finished tubes tubes that have already been sealed as well.

Also I don’t think those sliders would of failed under use. In the grand scheme of things that isn’t that bad. If you think that’s bad you should see what 50% of the sliders I’ve seen in person, welds look like at the frame. And this are extremely poorly welded and in the vertical down position. Many have been beat the shit and still are holding on. I wouldn’t want to lift them with a high lift as the leverage will be the most at the frame plate welds, but I don’t see the falling off anytime soon.

I would use cardboard on the bottom and mark the holes on that, then transfer that over to the table to drill the holes.

Pucked up this 1963 Rockwell 15-000 variable speed drill press a few months ago . Going to bring it back to life. Weights a ton and unfortunately is missing the variable speed parts, but I am closing in on replacements.1570506209327765669783.jpg

    No Engine Hoist ??

Nothing to attach to above the lathe ??

Lift one side at a time get a 1" block then a 2" block till you have it up about 4"

That should give you enough room .

Why does it even need bolted ?? My 48" Atlas just sits on my Custom bench
