Drove down to Driftwood for a bachelor party. Made a pit stop and picked up these.

Went to the Salt Lick, where we took BYOB to mean Bring Your Own Barrel proof bourbon. (Party planner in the picture)

BBQ was okay. The brisket complimented the GTS nicely.

Some of the rest of the spread at the house we're staying at.

I went to Salt Lick last year with some family friends while visiting for the F1 race, our byob spread didn't look that good!

And I agree with your bbq assessment, it was ok. Great atmosphere, but I've had better Q :D

We had a keg of Tupps Cotton Candy. Justin’s neighbor is the brewer over there, so we had a lot of Tupps at the event C6F83F92-D302-44A9-B3DD-659412A1C267.jpg

Yea I can see that, the problem I had was it was mid week and most bbq joints were only open on the weekend.

Cool to see it once I guess, wouldn't go back. And probably wouldn't try the one in the airport haha

Salt Lick brings out the hot opinions. I've been to this one in Driftwood three times, now, and always had a good experience. Can't speak to the other locations or the airport joints.

We had the first plate of meat delivered and everyone looked at me, waiting for the BBQ guy to knock it. It was just fine, especially for getting family style all-you-can-eat. I could critique, I suppose, but we weren't there in search of a world conquering brisket. We were there to sit around the table, share great whiskey, eat our fill, and enjoy the company. We laugh and joke a lot, so the casual setting is perfect for us.

We had a hell of a good time. With a good group of friends, if we're having a long weekend down this way, I'll absolutely go back.

Edit: Funny part. Our server was awesome. We had a great time with him. He said he liked whiskey, so we got a to-go cup and gave him about 3 oz of George T Stagg.

I've been to the Salt Lick in Round Rock and thought it was pretty damn good. That opinion was based on a guy who had just spent 12 hours at a race track and consumed copious amounts of beer though so I'm pretty sure seared ground chuck would've been delicious at the time. This was 6 years ago before I had started BBQing myself as well so my exposure to good smoked meats was considerably less than it is now.

That being said whenever I make it back down there I do want to give it another try. I know it had to be better than the place we tried in Kansas City that was allegedly one of the best in town, I was underwhelmed enough that I can't even remember what it was called.

My local store had at least 2 EC BP A119 for $66. Not sure how that compares though.

They also has a few Ardbeg Traigh Bhan which I had never heard of. $300, which appears to be retail

You sure about that? I bought the wrong bottle one time & they wouldn't let me return it, even with the plastic seal around the neck still intact. I googled it from home & sure enough it's a law (maybe state but not federal, YMMV)

Oh, I didn't think about that. I don't even have a membership. My gf told me could. She's drank alcohol maybe six times ever, so I doubt she's tried. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to choke down a highly recommended scotch. :proposetoast::puke:

It’s all good. A few cubes were added as I do with all. Except for the first sip of something new.
