Yep, I fill up about 7 times a month @ $45ish per tank = $315-320 a month on gas. My commute to/from work is 50 miles roundtrip per day. Plus I drive about 100-200 miles on the weekend. Thats also about what I spend on groceries/food too per month. I guess its an ouch...but its a normal expense so its not surprising.

That is the one I've always been told growing up. Kinda goes along the same lines as not getting fuel after the station has just been resupplied. (maybe in the past when nothing was filtered at the station, but I really wouldn't worry about it today)

You forgot about the myth that when its empty there's more fumes in the tank, giving it the greater chance to explode.

I still stick by my theory that if something comes up that I must drive to, I dont want to add to the emergency by running out of fuel. I couldn't imagine trying to pump gas with something like a broken bone or a deep cut that needs stitches.

I like the fact that the OP put his Ultragauge to the test. I don't want to drive mine to empty, but I want my UG to be accurate.

OP, are you positive the MPG and distance was calibrated on the UG? I'm not 100% happy with my settings yet, as my speed and distance settings are kicking my ass.

I must agree! You gotta fill her up or burn the pump.

I didnt calibrate mine like the manual said, but i had been getting really good gas miledge, because i was driving all high way on a trip, and was getting like 23 and then monday i drove to school and i get like 18 mpg on the way to school cause traffic and it think that was the reason it was off. I think it was off cause the avg mpg was squied by the long trip i had taken.
But thank you for liking the fact that i put it to the test.
