Avoid those two dealerships, Like the plague!

I bought my truck from Upper James Toyota...

Got lied to, screwed over and then the run around... (glad I kept good notes and pictures or they would have got away with lying to me and when they were caught and they knew it.... the had to agree they would pay for a group of my choice to do the repairs, and well because the Sport does not have the rear locker like they told me, they would not take my truck back as a trade in for an off-road, and suggested I take it to arbitration).

I dealt with the service manager, GM and VP there and a few of the mechanics.

How to put it.... complete incompetence apathy and dishonesty, I observed in their service dept especially..

Redhill is owned by the same family that also owns Parkway Nissan and Upper James Toyota.

Their VP (member of family that owns it) that covers both dealerships said that if I modified anything from stock, it will void my warranty (even changing the tires voids my power-train warranty according to their GM and VP ).

If my truck broke down in front of Red Hill Toyota or Upper James Toyota, I would pay out of pocket to tow it to another dealership. Or fix it on the side of the road myself.

I'm pretty cynical about most dealerships service departments but after what I observed with those guys,
I wouldn't spit on a quarter and throw it in their direction.

That's how I feel about Canadian Tire. I will pay to have my cars towed elsewhere even if I'm in their lot.

Hmm odd, as i picked up my truck from UJT (Upper James Toyota) and have had nothing but good service from them. Granted the only service they get from me atm is when i punctured my own gas filler tube from when i used too long of a step-bit to enlarge the polymer bed's drainage holes
    :bananadead:
or when i go to their parts department for engine oil/ whatever else i may need (the rubber bed mat is amazing screw you)

Anyways the only one i really deal with there is Mustafa - he's a sales guy after retiring from the service department after 20-something years. so mechanically, he knows what's up and how well off the trucks are.
In your case, when was the last time you went to UJT?

About a year and a half ago.

Got my truck from UJT almost 2 years ago.

    There was a reason;
they wanted me to pick up my truck after 5pm in the winter,
they had moved it to a dark corner of the lot for me to pick it up,
They had not washed the truck and had left almost a week's worth of snow and Ice on the truck...
No one was available from the service area so we could pull it in and at least look at it in the light...
Service Advisors are not allowed to look at new truck problems, only service manager, but he was not available.
Service manager had to leave for emergencies for each of my appointments before I got there....
Only got to see the service manager when I came in a different vehicle and just walked into his office unannounced (after I had called a little earlier and was told he was out for the day)...
What a coincidence he was reviewing my 4 page legal letter I had sent to said dealership showing that their usual games where not going to work....
Reviewed with the service manager and one of the techs, a couple issues...
Glad I have an Automotive background or I would have been fooled by the techs answers...
Had the service manager pull the relevant pages out of the service manual to prove them both wrong...
Inquired about the service bulletins that described fixes for one of my issues,
was told there were NO service bulletins at al,l for anything on the 3rd gen Tacoma's, never any Recalls either....
And here it is, I'm standing in front of them with a binder and have left it open so they can see all the official Toyota Canada service bulletins and recall notices, (lol maybe they didn't notice)...
So as I'm looking around the dark and dingy service bay, noticing the tools and rags all over the place...
I realize these guys are just using the Toyota name and do not follow any of the disciplines at all, that I was used to when dealing with their assembly plants.
I wouldn't let then install a TRD Pro skid plate for free.
I had decided that my truck would never see their service bay.
I fixed most of the Issues myself so I know I'm not talking out of my ass when I say they didn't know what they were talking about.
Even the paint issues that you could see from 30' away is fixed, by myself. ( that was about 20hrs work).
Just have a couple small paint chips to finish fixing...
Howling rear end... fixed (well you gotta listen and know it's there to hear it)
and a few other small issues I fixed myself.

I pulled a few strings and had myself invited as a new customer for their vehicle orientations as both UJT and Red Hill Toyota (easy was to see the service bays and meat the shop foreman).

Red Hills bays were big, bright very clean, organized and you could see a few things that were being done similar to Toyota systems (signs labels, lines etc) people that know the 5S system will understand.
But what turned me off was... one customer asked about a break in for their vehicles engine. ( I though ah ha, easy for him as it says in all manuals even owner's manual what it is for brakes, engine and towing )
His answer, "drive it like you stole it, right out of the showroom" - wrong, especially for brakes. (oh I know the engines get hot bed tested but...)
When their car lady was telling the rest of the group about never to help others to jump start their cars because you could fry $3k worth of computers in your vehicle if you even try...
I asked the foreman about any issues with the Tacomas....
He told me that Tacomas never have issues, and they just change their oil or fix things the customer broke...
Well sir, that to me, that is another wrong answer....

And since their VP is the same VP that told me that tires voids my power-train warranty...

That service department is a big nope.

My sales guy and Adam where both great guys, you could tell they were humiliated over what was going on in this case.

Holy shit, verbal/text diarrhea ... be glad, that was the short form.

Well there's some truth to that.
It's like every Timmies out there; life is easier when you realize that all these "brand" stores are (and i learned this through the eyes of one of the LAST Blockbusters in existence) is that they are privately owned lots. but the catch is that they ONLY deal with and sell their specialty products. In this case, for UJT and RedhillT dealerships are just your regular Joe-Shmoe car lots + Garages but have access and a contract with Toyota of Canada to ONLY service and sell Toyota products as per the contract - which include the theme, presentations, guidelines, standards, etc etc. on how Toyota of Canada requires them to behave.

So if they're out of whack, you might be able to poke the heads to take a looksie. But the issue is, is that UJT and Red Hill are the 2 largest dealers in Ontario for them (at least when i went to get my truck on the Red Tag day event, i found a internal(?) news pamphlet that showed which salesman sold the most and a few other statistics, so this is where i based my knowledge on) so the fact that something might come out of it, is rather small.

and geeze, that's a horror story if I've ever heard of one...

I already jumped started 4 vehicles :annoyed:

I don’t know whether to start a slow clap for your victory, or cry at their incompetence and borderline fraud (or theft). They are hiding behind the Good Reputation of the Toyota brand, while simultaneously ruining the reputation.

Pretty much why i don't let anyone else touch my shit anymore. I feel bad for the good techs that actually know what they’re doing and do a good job just for their co workers to ruin a shops reputation.

I even had a ‘good’ tech screw me over. I can do a good enough job ruining my stuff, I don’t need to pay someone else to do it.

The sad thing is I'm having issues when they are doing it for "free", I'm still not getting my money's worth.

The folks there service whomever is needed.
They don't care where the vehicle was purchased. At least not that it's been ever brought to my attention.

Definitely will want to book an appointment though. They are often really backed up.
519-748-9666 will get you to reception. Ask for an appointment coordinator if you need to set something up.

I know the feeling. Sent a sled in for warranty work on a motor and a bunch of shit was found to be wrong during re assembly that was now out of the warranty period. If the tech that tore it down would have checked everything over properly or even opened his eyes or something while working on it would have been caught.

I've been told that you can even get warranty and the ECP service done in the USA also.
The towing coverage works there too for us and same for the Americans coming here.

My own experience with the couple of Toyota dealers in my area has been better than with the Mazda and Chrysler dealers in my area, though I'm significantly more knowledgeable now vs then. As I understand, the Toyota dealers in the US are just as bad as the GM/Ford/Chrysler dealers. The benefit of the Toyota brand is visiting the dealer less often...

Do any of you guys know what tool I need to buy for switching between 2 sets of TPMS?

Its for my wife's CR-V, I picked up a used set of CR-V rims that are almost brand new for my wifes winter rims. They have TPMS in them, so I would like to be able to reprogram which sensors it see's.

From my understanding its a device that plugs into the ODBII port with a dongle? Cant seem to narrow down what device I need.
