    1. That is not Aluminum Oxide. That is Sodium Bicarbobate, or Baking Soda. This is a very fine grit one time use media that is inappropriate for your purpose.
    2. Blast Tanks require a really powerful compressor. I have a 60 Gal 11 CFM unit @ 90 PSI and it only works for a few seconds.
    3. The most abrasive media you can buy is something called Steel Shot. It’s basically crushed up ball bearings. This is completely excessive for your purpose.
    4. Go buy a bag of Harbor Freight Aluminum Oxide or a Garnet media. This is what I use for Rusty cast iron and corroded steel.

@Kwikvette, you are into the lifting of trucks?

how can i get mine up another foot, maybe 2', so that i can safely work on it

i currently have the front up on ramps and the floor jack under the passenger rear axle up maybe half a foot with the driver rear on the ground
i need much more space for safety to work on my knees and i don't have a clue what to do :notsure:

    here

the guy at harbor freight said the soda should work ok? ... the glass bead media worked much better in August but was a mess!
i got the biggest compressor i could get that was less than $500 with 200psi

You should not be sandblasting your entire frame. Only sandblast the rusty inaccessible parts like the inside of the frame. The rest of it use a DA sander with 36 Grit. Sandblasting is very inefficient when it comes to large objects.

Soda media is completely inappropriate for what you’re doing. Soda is for delicate jobs. While it will work Aluminum Oxide is more appropriate and reusable.

When it comes to air compressors, PSI is irrelevant when rating efficiency. 200 PSI means nothing. A little 5 gallon pancake compressor can hold up to 200 PSI.

CFM is what you should be concerned about. A 11 CFM 60 Gal unit will operate the blast tank very inefficiently. People who do commercial sandblasting use construction air compressors, which do 185 CFM+. I rented one to power my blast cabinet during my horn blasting sessions.

the entire front part does not seem to really need it, (i have a pic to post) just under the bottom edges that the dealer undercoating and most of the inaccessible rear section
but i have to get rid of that nasty Toyota paint that is pure garbage and will not protect anything from road chemicals from what i have been learning

and I have not figured out how to sandblast inside frame on the bottom?

will the DA sander with 36 grit get it all down to naked steel to use the afterblast zinc phosphoric wash before the primer?

the higher CFM they (harbor freights) had was $200 more, a wheelbarrow one and heavy as heck! like 300lbs i think
    and required gas and oil
i am in too far over my head with all this :(
... had enough trouble trying to figure out how to properly attach the air hoses, had to make 2 trips back to the store that is a bit over 5 miles away
