OME BP-51 Install Report and Height Adjustment

You bet, I’m running KO2’s on 17x8 Ultra Maverick Black 235 wheels.

 

thanks for the info. I went with 285 16’s. Before realizing they don’t make c load tires in that size for 16. Oh well, I went with E load ko2’s.

 

I didn't pre set them myself and didn’t think to check before, just had the kit installed as is out of the box by my trusted local tire shop. So, I have no idea, my guess is something like 1 rebound, 4 comp? Whatever the factory setting is when they drop ship for Headstrong Offroad? Figured I’d wait until I have my SSO bumper and winch installed, then adjust height for the added weight, then experiment with adjustments to rebound/comp settings. I just got notified I’m at the Grinding and Cleaning station so I’m getting closer, inch by inch!

 

Yep, I originally pre ordered 10 ply for my truck and my tire shop told me the 6 ply C KO2 AT 285/70/17 had more load capacity than my truck could handle anyway and was more than adequate for my truck, was lighter, bit cheaper and happened to be on sale. So I went with their recommendation and handed over $958 for a set.

 

don’t blame ya one bit. For 16’s the rims and tires were cheaper for me even at the E load. But there are more tire options in the 17 wheel configuration. Wish I would have done a little more homework. Oh well, I’m sure they will ride fine and the suspension should soak up some of the bumps from the heavier and stiffer tire. I hope.

I too am waiting on a front bumper (unexpected delays though). I have full skids and sliders and need to raise the preload to at least 10mm but don’t want to do it all again when the bumper comes in.

 

Yeah, I think thats a good way to go about it. I can feel small bumps in my steering wheel while on road with the current setup at hwy speed, so it is a bit stiffer than the stock setup I replaced but when off road this setup shines big time, no comparison! I felt like I could drive thru terrain with a lot more speed if I wanted too. I’m hoping for a smoother softer ride off road on washboard out of this setup when I finally get it dialed.

Figure I’ll have added about 650 lbs net, front to rear, to my SR5 when the bumper/winch setup is on. That’s not including buddies and gear. I have a full matched spare, full steel skids w/fuel tank skid, Decked sys, Ladder rack, steel bumper, X2O winch and the lift itself w/HD leaf pack. I’m thinking of trying 15mm and maybe increase the front rebound a notch from where its set at now, to start with.

Here’s the factory out of the box setting looks like 4 threads equals 5mm.

 

Anyone know what the thread/length is on the bolts holding the top of the coil over?

I want to put the 1/4 spacer on the driver side and am going to grab some longer bolts for them....

 

from what I understand, you don’t need longer bolts for the 1/4” spacer. It’s the 1/2” that uses them.

 

so, I installed my kit this weekend. But only netted 1” of lift up front. That’s with the stock setting of 5mm and a 1/4” spacer from headstrong. It’s on a Trd pro. Not sure if that matters. Any idea why it only came up one inch over stock? I got 3.5” in the rear. So the rake is pretty extreme.

 

@WreckedRooster So I have mine set at 25 mm with the 1/4 plate in the driver side and the heavy duty Dakar leafs. I am running heavy with an aluminum cbi full coverage bumper and winch up front, full skids, sliders, prinsu rack, ARE shell, C4 high clearance rear bumper, with about 400 lv constant rear load and I get 2.75"all around. IMO 5mm is pretty stock and I like space I get for my 33's.

 

yeah, that 5mm isn’t giving me anything. Maybe 1/2”. Since the 1/4” spacer is giving me 1/2” as well. Think I’ll take them off and go to 15mm. I bought these and hope they work for adjusting them:

i bought those ones after someone posting them in this thread. they worked great for me



it might be slow/a pain if doing it by hand with a ratchet. i went to town with my impact gun and had them adjusted in a minute.

 

Were you able to do while installed on the vehicle?

 

i tried but no...

there is no room around the top of the spring in the truck to get anything in there to try to compress them

For me, I wasn't able to access the lock nut to even attempt an adjustment. So, I’m going to have my tire shop make the adjustment with them off when my SSO Hybrid/winch is installed. I did see something about using a 5/16” punch instead of the spanner wrench in that tight space on youtube? Plan to use ARB’s spec of 10mm for a gas Tacoma w/bumper and winch setup. Right now I’m set at 5mm no spacers and getting slight rubbing on mud flaps while making tight maneuvers under compression off road, no rubbing at all on road.

 

I just got off the phone with ARB and told them where my suspension was setting at ~1". They said it should be higher then that and to adjust to 12mm to get 2" from their product. Along with the spacer, it should get me 2.5" of height. That would give me a 1" rake with the truck having no extra weight on it, except for the factory TRD aluminum skid plate.
