Would you pay MORE for a Manual Transmission Tacoma?

I know Toyota is a business which needs to turn a profit. When comparing a similarly equipped TRD Sport/Off-road 2020 Tacoma you get a $1630 discount when you select a 6speed Manual Transmission over an Automatic. While saving money is a nice perk, it was lost on me since the primary reason I ordered my Tacoma was because of the available stick shift option. I was wondering how TW stood on the issue? I for one would actually pay a premium for a new manual transmission Tacoma in the future. I’m looking at you 4th generation Tacoma.

I realize stick shifts are losing popularity in the US and realistically we may not see a manual transmission in the 4th Gen Tacoma, but I’m curious if Toyota would consider keeping the manual if it could turn a larger profit on them?

For the record, I am an unapologetic Manual Transmission Fanboy.

Im also a manual transmission fan boy but as I get older (39) I couldn't give a shit about having one in a commuter/daily driver unless its a sports car. I will NEVER buy an automatic or flappy paddle sports/fun car but I will buy an auto truck to slog through rush hour traffic, do dump runs and light off road.

The only time I would pay more for a manual is when I want to be apexing corners and hitting red line.

 

Paying more would just translate to higher markup. 6spd has a lot fewer complicated parts

I have a 2016 TRD Sport V6 Auto.........In the last 10 days I have purchased a 2019 Sport V6 Manuel, and I notice about a three MPG loss on the new truck not enough to be concerned about .am 67 yrs old

If a lower priced, base model V6 was available in a MT, I probably would have gotten it. Had to step up to either a 4wd OR, Sport, or Pro to get the manual. But, it was a deal breaker if I couldn't have the 3 pedals. Love my 4x4 Sport, and I believe I paid a "extra" price, in order to get the transmission I wanted.

If a MT option would have been on the options checklist, I would have checked it, and happily paid.

Yes, I'm a fanboy too. I kept my MT Tundra for 18 years, and hope to keep this one longer.

 

The real question is will we even get a Manual for the next gen lol.

If rumors are true (which most likely will be) about the Taco going Turbo I don't see a Manual in the future

 

I enjoy manual. But I couldn't see myself paying more when I know it cost the company less to make. Why should I have to pay more for something that doesnt actually cost more, especially if it's well known.

 

I Don't know about the Turbo being in the future, but Toyota sells a lot of Manuel trans tacomas in Asia and Europe, I doubt they will discontinue them, Its a lot cheaper to put a Clutch in a Taco, than to overhaul an automatic in one, just saying.

I’m not sure these were ever available here in Canada, at least I’ve never seen one. Nation wide search doesn’t show any for sale on the used market either.

 

Hahaha.. Just no. Driving in traffic or the city with a manual sucks and I will never do that again; ever. I would pay more for an auto, without hesitation.

I prefer manual. I enjoy manual. It never bothered me in heavy traffic. I have had my fair share of auto and standard vehicles. I wouldn't pay more for something I know is cheaper to produce. If the 4th gen trucks are auto only, then all the more reason to enjoy my Manual 3rd gen as long as I can!

 

I would not pay a premium for a manual. This is one of the reasons I ended up buying new as many dealers/resellers had a premium on their 'rare' manual trucks. Manuals are way cheaper to manufacturer and much less complex than automatics. Toyota knows that and charges less.
